Morgan Roberts was pleased to grab his third goal of the season on Tuesday night as he was one of four different goalscorers to contribute to an emphatic 4-1 win over Scunthorpe United.
Roberts opening the scoring in the fourth minute, followed by Kieren Donnelly’s finish in the 13th the minute. Tom McGlinchey’s goal saw them go 3-0 up just before the break, but an added time goal from the Iron reduced the arrears.
A fourth goal from substitute Dan Creaney sealed the win as he tapped home in the 94th minute.
Roberts said: “I think we needed a really fast start today after the Carlisle trip.
“I don’t think we started well enough or quick enough and we were 2-0 down quite early on. Being at home, having the crowd, we knew we needed to start quick. After the third went in, and even after two, we felt comfortable and we just needed that fast start to set the tone of the game.”
After manager Andy Peaks shared his frustration of conceding the goal before the interval, the squad were quick to understand the importance of the next goal.
Roberts said: “After half time, we knew the next goal was going to be big.
If they got an early goal, it’s 3-2 and you’re holding on. That’s going to happen in any game of football, you need to ride your luck at times, which we did, and the counter attack [in the 94th minute] was exactly what you need to do when you’re defending your goal. We felt really good the majority of the game.
Discussing his goal, he continued: “I think all three have come at home now. I’m liking this place and scoring in front of the Lamb, so it’s good to get on the scoresheet again, and get such a win that we did, having four different scorers as well just shows how well everyone’s gelling and it’s good to see.”
Tamworth are back at the H.D Ricketts Community Stadium once again on Saturday as they host Woking.
Commenting on the importance of backing up a good result, Roberts said: “Carlisle was a poor start to the game as I mentioned.
“Barrow was a tough game here, so it’s good to get that momentum back. Going into another home game on Saturday, hopefully there’ll be another big crowd and we can get three points.”
