A physical game is decided by penalty decisions

The Lambs welcomed Adam Murray's Barrow to the HD Ricketts Community Stadium in their next Enterprise National League fixture.
And Andy Peaks' side had managed to put a little daylight between themselves and the bottom four with their last two league victories and clean sheets, but would face a tough test against Barrow, sitting just outside the play off positions prior to kick off.

Barrow got the game underway with The Lambs attacking the Meadow Street end in the first half and although played at a quick pace it took a while for the game to get going.
In the seventh minute Ricky Calder stole in and dispossessed Marcel Oakley inside the Barrow half and whipped a teasing cross into the box which Ben Winterbottom rose high to collect at his far post.
The Lambs were forced to defend the attacking crosses and close attention / intentions of Arian Allen around the 13 minute mark, as Barrow pushed towards the Castle End, and Tom Parkes got in the way of the dangerous delivery.
Following a foul inside the centre circle Parkes found himself at the other end and connected with Teo Kurtaran’s freekick but his header went a yard or two wide of the far post.
A slip by Calder on 17 minutes nearly allowed Allen to nip in and go one on one with Rhys Lovett but he was able to recover and block his path as Lovett raced out to smother the loose ball.
Lovett was called into action on 21 minutes pushing away Seb Thompson’s 25 yard goalbound effort for a corner which had to be dealt by Tom Handley with following Allens connection at the back of the crowded area, and cushion back into the dangerzone.
The first corner of the game came following good work by Carson down the Lambs left and Kurtaran found Joe Rye for a header past the far post but it was blocked and cleared.
Akex Reid seemed to catch Morgan Roberts on the halfway line with an elbow though, and this brought loud shouts from the home support but no card was shown.
Next, on the half hour, a snap shot from Thompson on the edge of the Lambs area skipped out past the right hand post despite the efforts of Allen to get a touch to divert it goalward.
Roberts was feeling the effects of the attention of Xavier Benjamin, who seemed to want to take his shirt home with him, and another freekick on the left on 38 was whipped into the box by Kurtaran with Parkes missing his connection just fractionally.
At the other end, Corey Edwaards appeared to have made mincemeat of the Lambs defence and set himself up with just Lovett to beat but he slipped the ball just wide of the left hand post when the travelling faithful were expecting a different outcome.
A long kick upfield saw Keiren Donnelly, Digie and Winterbottom all got for the same ball on 42 minutes, and from the resulting clearance / throw from the right Carson popped up at the back of the area and struck the ball into the floor and agonisingly wide of the far post.
As two minutes added time was shown a cross from Allen was headed towards Lovett by Reid but it was easy enough for the keeper to collect in the crowded box, but Handley took a blow to the head in the play and had to leave the field to recover.

HT: 0-0

The Lambs got the action back underway, and there were loud shouts for handball against Barrow defender Rekeen Harper which were not entertained by the referee.
Play continued though, and Donnelly struck powerfully forcing a partial clearance out to McGlinchey who shot on target but was unable to find a gap, and it popped up for Joe Rye but his half volley was taken by Winterbottom at head height.
There was a penalty awarded at the other end on 50 minutes though, when Reid raced into the area touched the ball past Lovett and the Lambs keeper clattered into him giving the referee no option but to point to the spot.
Bluebirds captain Harper duly blasted the kick home in front of his own fans and the visitors celebrated taking the lead (0-1, 51 mins).
With the sun going down and shining on the Meadow Street end Lovett missed his punched clearance and the Lambs defence were forced to boot the danger away, but Barrow continued to press and Carson was booked for a foul on Thompson on the right of the area on the hour.
His freekick forced the Lambs keeper to push it away at his near post, but there was nothing he could do about the finish at the opposite post on 61 minutes from Edwards, who met Reid’s low ball perfectly, to double the visitors lead (0-2, 61 mins)
After a great deal of shirt pulling in the middle of the park went unnoticed McGlinchey tried a low shot from 12 yards on 66 minutes which Winterbottom dropped to smother.
After two Lambs substitutions, a corner was forced, but had to wait while the referee sorted out pushing and shoving in the area, and Winterbottom was not troubled by the resulting flagkick.
Barrow then forced two corners of their own in quick succession and from the second Jake Hutchinson had to head it away from two incoming Bluebirds at the far post for another flagkick which Benjamin headed high and wide of the mark.
Donnelly tried to get around Paul Mbiya-Kalambiyi down the right on 83 minutes, but found himself impeded just before he stepped into the area, earning the Barrow defender a yellow card, and Roberts lined up the freekick but was unable to test Winterbottom.
The Lambs were awarded a penalty when Kurtaran was bundled over in the area with two minutes of mnorla time remaining, and he stepped up himself to plant it strongly past Winterbottom and reduce the arrears.
Eight minutes added time was handed to both sides at the end of the 90 and Acquaye was released by Donnelly on 96 minutes, and he beat his marker to forge a shooting chance, in mid stride, but he shot just wide of the right hand post by a matter of inches.
He took a knock in trying to get the chance away and so had to be substituted for the final few seconds of the game, which ended with the visitors taking the three points back to Cumbria.
Tamworth are next in action on Saturday 17 October in the FA Cup 4th Round Qualifying, away at Carlisle United.
