Four different goalscorers were on the scoresheet for the Lambs as they netted four in a match for the first time since April.
Goals from Morgan Roberts and Kieren Donnelly saw Tamworth 2-0 up after just 13 minutes. Tom McGlinchey added a third before the break, and despite Scunthorpe pulling a goal back in added time, the Lambs held on. They went further in front at the end of the second half with Dan Creaney tapping a goal home in his first game back from injury.
Peaks said: “Really, really pleased, a massive three points.
“We wanted a reaction after the last couple of games, really, because we’ve been in both with Barrow and Carlisle but lost them. Back under the lights, it was really important that we started the game well which we did. Overall, I look at it, we had to ride our luck at times, but 4-1, did it flatter us? No, I don’t think so.”
Despite the pleasing performance overall, Peaks admitted he was frustrated to have conceded just before half time and said that the scoreline did not feel comfortable.
He said: “2-0 up and playing really well in the first half, it could’ve been more.
“You get the third which was like the icing on the cake for the first half. Then, to concede was a negative. If you go in at 3-0, you’re happy. At 3-1, I was a little bit frustrated because it gave them a lift. We knew they’d have a go second half and they did. A lot of people said to me we were quite comfortable; I didn’t feel that because they had a lot of possession, balls in the box, they’ve hit the post, one of them goes in and it’s game on again. I always felt we might need another goal and we did have chances, but that’s small margins. Over the game we were fantastic.”
Tamworth are back in action at the H.D. Ricketts Community Stadium on Saturday as they welcome Woking to B77.
Peaks said: “We watched the Woking game against Scunthorpe and Woking were really good. We know we’re going to have to replicate that again Saturday. There’s no reason why we can’t. We’re going to train Thursday, and we need to play at the tempo we did, because I thought for the first half an hour we were unbelievable and they didn’t know what was going on. We have to make the Lamb that fortress we keep talking about, and I think tonight was back to where I want it to be.”
