The cagey affair saw a game of very few chances from either side, but Harrison Sohna turned his effort into the net at the start of added time to give the visitors three points.
It was first time in 18 games that Tamworth had failed to score, a run which stretches back to a home game against York City in April.
Peaks said: “I wanted to back up a great performance the other night against Scunthorpe.
“We knew it was going to be tough, they’ve got a lot of good players, but we weren’t really at it, I didn’t think. I thought we lacked a little bit of energy. To be fair, come the end, a point would have been good, so to concede that late on is very frustrating.
“I think the energy levels were the main thing. I thought they kept the ball really well. I didn’t think we were good enough at times when we did get it, and I thought we looked tired.”
Tamworth did come close to converting their chances, but Peaks felt the level of quality was not at the standard required.
He continued: “Equally, second half when we got into some good areas we weren’t good enough either.
“We didn’t hit the target, we didn’t have a killer pass, and we could have nicked it in the second half. They had a lot of possession without creating loads of chances, because I thought we defended our box, and in general, quite well. We just lacked a bit of quality.
“Morgs [Morgan Roberts] has gone through and the keeper saved it. KD [Kieren Donnelly] has gone through. We’ve had some shots first half, and for me the frustrating things was when we got a corner. Every time we put a corner in the box it was blown for a foul, and there was other stuff going on which wasn’t given.
“The one on KD at half time, he’s on the halfway line and he’s pulled to the ground, we end up with a free kick given against us. I really don’t get that. That aside, we weren’t good enough as a group. We could’ve always got away with it, picked a point up, and we didn’t. We’ve got to learn from it and move on.”
Luke Fairlamb returned to action after being sidelined for a number of weeks, just four days after Dan Creaney also made an appearance in the squad.
Peaks said: “The squad’s looking a lot better. We’re adding to it with some loans that I’ve been really pleased with. Some of the boys coming back into it is going to make it really competitive and that’s what I want. We want the players back, and we’ve still got others missing, but obviously, you need a good squad.
“This league is brutal. To play Tuesday/Saturday at this level is hard, especially this tempo we have to play at, you need a big squad. To see Creans and Luke back on the pitch is good, and Ryan Howley as well, so it’s heading in the right direction.”
