Woking snatched a last minute winner

On the back of the resounding 4-1 home victory over Scunthorpe United in midweek, The Lambs welcomed The Cards to the HD Ricketts Community Stadium in their next Enterprise National League encounter with the opportunity to leapfrog the visitors into a possible 14th place, should results elsewhere go their way, however a last minute strike from Harrison Sohna gave the visitors the three points.

Andy Peaks made no changes to the side that defeated The Iron, and Woking came into the game with stop start form under Interim manager Craig Ross but a propensity to score goals when they found their form, making for a tough test for The Lambs.

Woking kicked off towards the Castle End with the sun dropping behind Jon Macaulay’s goal but an early run from Ramell Carter forced a foul to halt his progress and Teo Kurtaran’s deadball forced a corner.
Morgan Roberts’ deadball whipped into the area and was headed away by Woking captain John Marquis giving the visitors respite from the quick advance.
Woking pushed up in the next move and Aiden O’Brien connected with a dropped clearance to give Macaulay his first touch of the ball five minutes in.
Marquis got in the way of a clearance from Macaulay after 11 minutes and the Lambs were fortunate that the rebound didn’t go anywhere near the goal, sparking comments from the Lambs bench, and there were cheers from the home faithful when O’Brien tried a long range shot on 14 minutes, but put it out for a throw in on the far side instead.
A foul by Tim Akinola on Roberts on 15 minutes, 35 yards out, set up Kurtaran but he too fired wildly off target, high over Reyes cross bar and the away terracing.
Woking forced a trio of successive corner s around the 20 minute mark but failed to test Macaulay and The Lambs broke quickly from the final flagkick, but Carter’s shot from the right of the box went straight into the hands of Reyes.
Tom Handley was forced to head a cross behind away from O’Brien’s incoming run shortly after and the corner as met by a flying header in the six yard box from Shadrach Ogie but he was unable to get the right direction on it and it flew wide of the mark.
Another Woking corner came on the half hour, and it took a defensive scramble by The Lambs to deny Ogie a close range header and follow up strike from 6 yards but Ogie was then booked for a reckless challenge on Roberts as he tried to go past him on the right of midfield.
Tom McGlinchey connected with a dropping clearance after 33 minutes but his strike curled up and away from danger but Woking enjoyed more of the play in the minutes after that half chance with Ogie forcing a corner on 37 minutes which he connected with but put wide of the far post.
Kurtaran was booked for a tackle from behind on Jaiden Putman on 39 minutes and the game continued in it’s stop start manner as niggly freekicks seemed to be the order of the day.
A quick break from the Lambs over the halfway line by Kieren Donnelly on 44 looked at first that he would break upfield and be able tot test Reyes but he appeared to be dragged back and then brought down before he got out of the centre circle, but referee McQuillan was having none of it and gave a freekick the other way and the first half ended goalless.

HT: 0-0

The Lambs restarted the game but not before making a double substitution, and they forced a corner which Tom Parkes rose high to head at goal but the Lambs captain couldn’t keep it down and it went a few inches over the bar.
Roberts then rifled a shot from the left of the area towards the near post in the next foray forwards, forcing Reyes to protect his goal.
Woking’s first chance of the half came via a run from Ogie down the left and cut back to O’Brien who turned in the area and struck low towards the near post, but found Macaulay perfectly positioned to drop and smother his on target effort.
Charlie McArthur went into the referee’s notebook for a push in the back on Donnelly in the centre circle on 57, but Tom Handley’s deadball came to nothing.
Ogie was denied sight of the ball by a timely challenge from Carter on 63 minutes, and although the Woking player hit the deck in the area the referee indicated that he played the ball rather than the man.
Carson made headway down the left and pulled the ball invitingly back for Donnelly 18 yards out on 64 but the latter completely missed his connection and the chance was gone as quickly as it came and when Morgan picked the ball off the toes of the Woking defence a minute later he looked odds on to fire home but Reyes prevented his close range strike from giving The Lambs the advantage.
Substitute Ryan Howley picked up a pass from Donnelly on 67 minutes but his shot from 25 yards struck a covering defender and ballooned up for Reyes to take with ease.
Macaulay had to be brave to push the ball away from the feet of Marquis as he moved into the near post area on 73 minutes, conceding another corner in the process, but another infringement halted play and prevented the flagkick from coming to anything.
Handley got his head in the way of a first time drive from the left by Ogie with 15 to play and the resulting corner was wasted, allowing The Lambs to switch play to the other end.
Reyes then punched a McGlinchey corner away for another on 78 minutes but another foul stopped play from the set piece.
Donnelly did all the hard work to get the ball out of midfield and towards the edge of the area on 84 minutes, but had to strike quickly when he had a sight on target and ultimately found the Castle End terracing rather than test Reyes as the minutes ticked down.
McGlinchey helped Creaney force a corner by the clubhouse on 86 minutes but was unable to present a chance from the kick.
At the other end Kelly shot from 12 yards into the grasp of Macaulay after Ogie and Sohna had kept the ball in play and set up their teammate with a quick chance.
But there was no stopping the visitors in the 90th when Kelly made space down the left and cut the ball back into the path of Sohna to place his shot inside the far post and give the travelling faithful a reason to be cheerful (0-1, 90 mins)
