MATCH PREVIEW: WOKING (H)

Tamworth FC

Tamworth are back at the H.D. Ricketts Community Stadium as they host back-to-back home games for the first time this season, welcoming Woking to B77.

The Lambs come into the game off the back of an emphatic 4-1 victory at home to Scunthorpe United in midweek, where four different goalscorers were on the scoresheet. Morgan Roberts, Kieren Donnelly and Tom McGlinchey all contributed to the goals in the first half and Dan Creaney’s return back from injury saw him seal the win in stoppage time.

The opposition

Woking Football Club were founded back in 1887 and have been a high-profile name in non-league football for several years.

After making their way up the pyramid in the 70s and 80s, they eventually joined the Football Conference in 1992, remaining their until relegation in 2009 saw them drop down to the sixth tier for three years.

They comfortably won the Conference South title in 2011-12 by nine points over Dartford. They would go onto spend a further six seasons at the level, but a 21st-place finish sealed their fate in 2018.

They returned straight away the following season by beating Welling United 1-0 in the playoff final, and have stayed in the National League since.

The fans also witnessed two FA Trophy semi-finals in the space of five years as they lost to Hereford and local rivals Aldershot Town respectively.

The Cards also made National headlines in the early 1990s where the then sixth-tier side triumphed over West Bromwich Albion, beating them 4-2 away at The Hawthorns.

DID YOU KNOW: Woking is the oldest professional football club in Surrey. They are also the only team from the county to play in the fifth-tier, following the relegation of Dorking Wanderers in 2024.

Who’s in the dugout?

Following the departure of Jermaine Defoe prior to the 2026-27 season, there are currently two interim managers, Craig Ross and Jake Hyde, who are in the dugout at Kingfield Stadium.

Peaks Speaks: Woking

“We watched the Woking game against Scunthorpe and Woking were really good. We know we’re going to have to replicate that again [on] Saturday. There’s no reason why we can’t. We’re going to train Thursday, and we need to play at the tempo we did, because I thought for the first half an hour we were unbelievable and they didn’t know what was going on. We have to make the Lamb that fortress we keep talking about, and I think Tuesday night was back to where I want it to be.”
