The Lambs return back home after defeat on the road on Bank Holiday Monday. Despite an impressive performance from the Staffordshire side, they fell to a 3-2 defeat to Yeovil Town at Huish Park.

The Glovers took the lead midway through the first half before Jake Hutchinson levelled on the half-hour mark. After a fortunate deflection made it 2-1 to the Glovers after the interval, they then extended their lead to 3-1 via a second deflection in the 66th minute.

Despite that, Tamworth weren’t finished, as demonstrated by Kieren Donnelly who netted with an immediate response.

Haydn Hollis’ finish in the 89th minute was ruled out for offside after a lengthy delay from the assistant referee, and despite putting on a solid performance for the 93 travelling fans, the Lambs headed back to Staffordshire empty-handed.

Andy Peaks said: “I thought the character was good.
“I thought the general performance was good from a lot of the players. There was a lot of positives to take from it. I’m frustrated that we haven’t took anything, but it’s a long way to come. At 3-1, they could have just rolled over, they didn’t roll over, the longer it went on, it looked like we were going to get back in it. There’s a lot of positives, that’s the sort of performance I want.

“Disappointed to concede the goals, again. We’ve got to stop conceding. A little bit of luck, two of their goals deflected, whereas nothing seemed to drop for us. Their goalie made some excellent saves, we had enough chances to win two games and looked really good in transition. So there was positives to take, but at the moment I’m disappointed because I wanted to take something out the game. I felt we could’ve easily done that, but when we look at the bigger picture, performance-wise there was a lot of positives to take.”

Ryan Howley joins in with the squad this week after signing on loan from Bristol Rovers.

Josh Bailey is still sidelined but is back training with the squad.

The opposition

Boston United were promoted to the National League two seasons ago and have since transitioned to become a full-time outfit.

They spent 16 seasons in the sixth tier before winning promotion through the playoffs in 2024, beating Brackley Town in the final.

In the first season back in the National League in 24/25, they secured a 19th-placed finish and picked up wins against the likes of Yeovil Town and Southend United.

They improved further on their league position last season, finishing just one place below the Lambs in 12th place. They enjoyed several high-scoring games, including winning a 6-3 thriller at Scunthorpe United.

Tamworth have picked up points against the Pilgrims in seven out of their last ten meetings as well as winning two FA Trophy ties via a penalty shootout.

Paul Hurst was reappointed manager of Boston United in January after leaving in the early 2010s. During his tenure, he earnt promotion the Conference North as well as winning a number of local county trophies.

One to watch

Kenneth Aboh is the top scorer for the Pilgrims, with three goals from his first five matches.
