After the 3 point haul from Hartlepool at the weekend Andy Peaks made a raft of changes to the starting eleven including giving keeper Jonathan Macaulay his full debut.
Leeds kicked off the game with The Lambs attacking the Meadow Street end and despite both sides trying to move the ball around on the deck there were no half or even quarter chances forged in the opening ten minutes.
In the 11th minute Dyson stole behind his marker and drilled it into the box for Jake Hutchinson but he missed his shot and forced a corner. Jordan Cullinane-Liburd rose highest to flick it on and Hayden Carson connected but sent the close range chance high over the cross bar.
Hutchinson nearly got his head to a deep high cross on 15 minutes but it was knocked away and Teo Kurtaran followed up with a low right footed half volley which Robert Cook had to take at waist height.
From a Syd Agina center on 18 minutes, Hutchinson had two bites of the cherry but his first strike was well parried by Cook and his follow up smashed into the side netting rather than between the posts.
Away from the Lambs chances the visitors were unable to get far into the Lambs back third, even with the guidance of the experienced Jonny Howson, with over 750 Football League appearances under his belt.
A head injury suffered by Hutchinson forced a break in play on 27 minutes, and when play restarted, with Hutchinson suitably bandaged, Leeds took the opportunity to push Tamworth back.
A cross from Harvey Vincent had to be dealt with, and Macaulay collected a similar ball from the same player on 32 minutes, before a fellow yellow shirted teammate could get there first.
At the other end Acquaye whipped the ball in from the left on 40 minutes, and it was just behind the run of Hutchinson who would surely have hit the target at least from 12 yards and a corner was conceded on 42 minutes but Acquaye’s shot was charged down.
From the play that came after the ball was only half cleared away and fell invitingly for Oliver Dyson 25 yards from goal so he struck a sweet first time volley which Cook had no chance of stopping as it flew past him into the back of the net (1-0, 43 mins)
Hutchinson made a tricky run into the left of the area and struck for goal in the second of four added minutes, but found the side netting again in the final action of the first half.
HT: 0-1
Howson made way for Logan White before The Lambs got the game back underway, but the first chance fell to Jacob Render after a quick passing move between Samuel Alker and Harvey Vincent found their team mate 12 yards out and it took a block and clearance by Haydn Hollis, perfectly positioned on the goal line to deny the equaliser.
A freekick from United captain Oliver Pickles skimmed the top of the net on 48 minutes and a couple of freekicks went close but didn’t really trouble Macaulay.
An angled shot from the right corner of the both on 57 minutes by Vincent skipped just past the far post, and on 65, it was the turn of Hutchinson to strike on goal. After Kurtaran’s cross pitch pass found him on the edge of the area, we turned his marker but couldn’t get power and Cook was able to take it easier than he perhaps expected.
Cook then pulled off a superb low stop to deny Jordan Cullinane-Liburd a seemingly certain goal from a powerful downward header on 75 minutes, pushing the ball away from the goalline and to safety.
Hutchinson found space to drive right footed toward the far post on 76 but it bent away from the target, and substitute Ricky Calder shot from the opposite side past the opposite post in similar fashion.
Acquaye stole in to rifle a left footed low shot on target, which Cook cleared away for a corner at his near post on 81 minutes, and Lyttle drove low from the right out past the far post less than 60 seconds later.
Acquaye let fly with a powerful strike on 88 that rose just over the crossbar and it proved to be the final act of a third consecutive win and clean sheet for the home side to put them third in Group C with one to play.
The Lambs are next in action when they welcome Barrow on Saturday in their next Enterprise National League fixture, kick off 3pm.
