Andy Peaks was pleased that the collective belief of his Tamworth squad contributed to the late winner against Wealdstone on Saturday afternoon.

After trailing at the break, the Lambs fought back, with Nathan Tshikuna dispatching a penalty after the hour mark, and Jake Hutchinson grabbing the winner in the seventh minute of stoppage time.

Peaks said: “Delighted. For me, it was massive to get three points today, we all said that.
“From our point of view, back at home, we needed to bounce back. Ultimately, we’ve done that. It’s been late coming, had a lot of chances before but no one worries about that when you pick up the newspaper tomorrow and we’ve won 2-1. For me, that was vital.”

Wealdstone took the lead as Olufela Olomola nestled a shot into the corner in the 11th minute, with Peaks sharing his disappointment.

He tempered that feeling with a sense of belief that he instilled into the side, allowing them to come out into the second half with some renewed energy.

Peaks admitted: “I was disappointed at half time. Not only the goal, because we didn’t defend our box, which we talked about. It was a free shot in so I was disappointed and I thought we created very little. We had one good opening which we didn’t take when they mixed up at the back.

“Other than that, there was nothing for anyone to cheer about, there was no pressure, no belief, no tempo, and I said to them I couldn’t pick anyone out of the XI that deserved to really start the second half. We’ve talked a lot over the last couple of weeks about being better, being a bit unlucky and playing some good teams, but for me, it’s a case of ‘We can’t keep talking’ and we need to see a reaction in the second half. I felt we got that from the first few seconds.”

Speaking more on the second half, he said: “We started on the front foot, we played a lot higher up the pitch, we made them make mistakes, worry about what we were doing, and KD [Kieren Donnelly] did well and got us the penalty, but I think that was coming.

“We’d had chances before that where it hit the post or rolled across. Nothing was dropping. You have to keep the belief, I keep saying that. We’ve not had the rub of the green in a lot of games and this looked like being the same if I’m being honest. If you keep believing it, as a group, you can find a way, and we found that.”
