Their last league game saw them fall to defeat on the road at Harrogate Town. Ben Milnes' opener was turned around by the hosts before half time, with midfielder Will McGowan adding a third for Harrogate just after the hour mark.

Tuesday's opposition

Southend United are one of the best-supported teams in the National League, boasting the highest attendances in the National League in the last two consecutive seasons. Last season’s fifth-place finish saw them average 8,671 home supporters across the season.

Their history goes much deeper, with a lengthy spell in the EFL to their name. Following their foundation in 1906, they spent over 115 years in the Football League. Southend were a regular of the second tier in the mid-1990s and won promotion back to that level as recently as 2007. Their best success in the EFL Cup came in that season, too, as they reached the quarter-finals of the competition, only to be eliminated by Tottenham Hotspur after extra time.

However, financial troubles meant they were on the brink of liquidation, and eventually dropped into the National League in 2021, where they have continually challenged the top half of the table.

They did have success in the cup competitions, though. They secured the FA Trophy in the 25-26 season, beating Wealdstone 4-2 on penalties at Wembley Stadium.

Who’s in the dugout?

Kieron Dyer is in his first managerial role. With a playing career at the top level, most notably for Newcastle United and England, Dyer brings a wealth of experience to the Shrimpers. He joined the club in the summer of 2026, with his managerial debut coming in the form of a 3-1 win away at Altrincham on the opening day of the season.

Leon Chambers-Parillon is the top scorer, with four goals in seven games.

Darren Oldaker has scored one goal this season, making the step down from playing in the EFL with Chesterfield and Swindon Town.
