Goalkeeper Rhys Lovett was pleased to grab Tamworth’s first clean sheet of the season on Wednesday evening as the Lambs won 2-0 against Sutton United at the H.D. Ricketts Community Stadium.

Kieren Donnelly netted for his sixth goal of the campaign as a shot from Joe Rye was parried into his path by the Sutton goalkeeper, and Donnelly tapped home. Five minutes later, Tamworth doubled their lead as a corner came in and Sutton defender Emmanuel Osadebe headed the ball into his own net.

Lovett said: “Every single man did their job, defended unbelievably, and played a big role.
“We wanted a reaction because from the start of the season it hasn’t been where we’d like to be. We started it off, and hopefully it’s the start of our season. Everyone did unbelievably and we hope to carry it on.”

Discussing the clean sheet, Lovett said: “I’ll take that all day. We defended, put our bodies on the line and we deserve it.”

There were 1,063 supporters in attendance at the H.D. Ricketts Community Stadium to watch the victory, Lovett was pleased with the levels of support.

He said: “They were brilliant. I’ve played Tamworth a few times and it was the same. Honestly, they’re brilliant. We need them on Saturday [against Hartlepool], and thank you.”
