Saturday’s match winner Jake Hutchinson spoke after the game about his delight to get back into the team and acknowledged the collective effort from the rest of his side to secure victory against Wealdstone.

The Lambs came back from behind as Olufela Olomola netted in the 11th minute, but a penalty from Nathan Tshikuna pulled level after the hour mark before Hutchinson struck home a winner deep into stoppage time.

He said: “Hard to put into words.

“Scoring a last minute winner is probably the best feeling you can get. We had it against Worthing, and it’s one of them that is always better when it’s you. For me, just buzzing that I could get on the pitch and help the team out. They put in a hell of a shift, the boys that started, the boys that came on, put in a shift to put us into that position where we’re still in the game with a couple of minutes to go. Luckily I was there to put the ball away.”

With Tamworth trailing at the break, Hutchinson opened up about what was shared in the dressing room at half time by manager Andy Peaks.

Hutchinson explained: “It was not even anything tactically, it was just more of a willingness to go out and work, and put yourself about, and just a little bit more work rate, put them on the back foot, because they had a little bit more of the ball in the first half, then second half we come out with a little bit more intensity to really put them on the back foot and get ourselves back in with a chance of being in the game.”

Discussing his goal, he said: “It’s one of them that I always back myself to be in the right place at the right time.

“As a striker, that instinct to be there and around the box, and it’s one of them that when it falls to [Tom McGlinchey], I know that he’s one of them that’s going to look for that pass to find someone in a better position than he’s in. As soon as it’s landed at him and I see his eyes look up and see me, I thought he was gonna slide it across, and it was up to me to put it away.”

Tamworth have been involved in several late goals so far this season, demonstrating the mentality and perseverance of the side.

Hutchinson said: “All I’ve ever known with Tamworth is that sort of never say die attitude, keeping themselves in games and being really hard to beat and to break down.

“That’s something we’re working on every week, trying to get back into the game. I think you can see we’ve got the ability to do that in games and get there at the end. A last-minute winner is always nice but maybe a few games where we can win it a little bit more easily than that.”
