Match Report:
Tamworth Ladies 2-1 Walsall Ladies
Tamworth Ladies rounded off their season in superb fashion with a well-earned 2-1 victory over a strong Walsall side, who finish the campaign as runners-up to Hednesford Ladies.
The opening 45 minutes were tightly contested, but it was Tamworth who carved out the better chances. Meg Chapman twice came close to breaking the deadlock, while Walsall’s best opportunity was expertly denied by home goalkeeper Freya Mear.
Half-time: 0-0
The second half followed a similar pattern, with Tamworth continuing to apply pressure. However, it was Walsall who struck first, capitalising on a scramble in the box. Their number 9 reacted quickest to smash the ball home and give the visitors the lead.
To their credit, Tamworth responded superbly. Maggie Croxall produced a perfectly weighted pass to split the Walsall defence, finding Chapman’s well-timed run. She coolly slotted the ball past the onrushing keeper to make it 1-1.
With ten minutes remaining, Croxall and Chapman combined once again. Maggie picked out Meg with another pinpoint pass, and with work still to do, Meg cut inside and delivered a stunning finish, clipping the ball in off the far post to give Tamworth a deserved lead.
Walsall pushed hard for an equaliser in the closing stages, but Tamworth’s defence stood firm, repelling every attack with grit and determination.
It was an all-round team performance to be proud of. Freya was assured in goal, protected by a rock-solid back four. The midfield battled tirelessly, and the front two were a constant threat throughout.
What a way to end the season—full of fight, flair, and a burning desire to win. A fantastic final showing from a team that gave everything from first whistle to last.
