Tamworth’s first home game of the Enterprise National League season ended in disappointment, following defeat to newly promoted AFC Fylde after The Lambs took the lead through Kieren Donnelly but ended the game with ten men.

They were unable to take the chances that fell for them after Donnelly's goal and two quick fire strikes at the end of the first half ultimately settled the tie.

Andy Peaks had made no changes to the side that recorded a comeback 3-3 point at Boreham Wood against Craig Mahon’s visiting side, promoted from the National League North as Champions in 2025-26 who had also started their 2026-27 campaign with a draw against Wealdstone.
A sea of red flags welcomed both sides to the HD Ricketts Community Stadium at The Lamb, and The Coasters got the game underway attacking the Castle End.
The visitors exerted some early pressure in the final third hoping for an early breakthrough, but failed to test Jas Singh and Tamworth responded strongly and took the advantage.
Donnelly notched his third goal in two games anticipating a delightful through ball from Nathan Tshikuna to break over the halfway line and go one on one with keeper Zac Jones, but the Fylde custodian could do nothing to prevent him finding the back of the net from 12 yards (1-0, 10 mins)
A dangerous right wing cross from Danny Ormerod saw Singh take the resulting downward header from Ethan Mitchell in his grasp on 15 minutes and this gave The Lambs impetus to try for a second.
Nathan Tshikuna went agonisingly close with a half volley with his back to goal on 20 minutes, and the largely partisan crowd watched and gasped as it dropped just over the bar and when Tshikuna fired from 25 yards in the 22nd minute Jones could only parry it but Donnelly, following in, couldn’t knock it past the floored keeper.
Fylde made an early change during the hydration break and were forced to defend a freekick as The Lambs continued to play in the same groove.
Ormerod was then booked for a block on Tshikuna with half an hour gone and from the freekick Jordan Cullinane-Liburd met it at the far post but Jones batted his goalbound strike away to deny him.
The Lambs defender ‘took one for the team’ in the 42nd minute by denying Ormerod a run through the middle, and with Tyler Lyttle covering he wasn’t the last man so escaped with a yellow card. However, Ormerod had the last laugh, heading home at the far post when the freekick came across the box from Tom Whelan and bounced invitingly for a close-range nod past Singh. (1-1, 43 mins)
Fylde took the lead in added time at the end of the half though when Cedric Main struck a hopeful shot low from the edge of the area and Singh uncharacteristically fumbled it into the back of the net (1-2, 45+4 mins)
Rye was then booked for a foul on Ormerod as he advanced through the central channel, and Fylde tried one last time to add to the scoreline in the first half from the dead ball with Ethan Mitchell heading well wide of the far post.

The Lambs restarted the game, but The Coasters came out on the front foot, moving the ball around with confidence and forced a couple of corners in the opening minutes.
The Lambs first flagkick of the game came seven minutes into the second half and Teo Kurtaran’s ball in forced Jones to punch it away in amongst a crowded area, and he was the visitors saviour on 56 minutes when Ben Acquaye and Donnelly were both denied in quick succession after he had pushed Tshikuna’s initial shot from 12 yards away into the path of the incoming Lambs.
Peaks made a double change just past the hour with Dan Creaney and Ben Milnes coming on, but it was Ormerod who look dangerous again on 65 minutes, meeting a deep cross but headed it well wide of the mark.
Fylde substitute Harvey Broad spotted Singh off his line a minute later and decided to go for goal but perhaps chose the wrong option with a more meaningful break a possibility, however it was a good choice from a Lambs perspective as his attempt was a country mile off target.
Creaney was a closer with his effort on 72 minutes, but his angled shot took a deflection for a corner on the right which came to nothing.
At the other end Ormerod forced Singh to protect his near post from a right footed placed shot towards the right hand post and the Lambs keeper pushed it away.
A deep cross from the right from Lyttle on 76 minutes was met at the back of the box by Creaney but his header failed to test Jones and on 78 minutes Acquaye slid in to thump a close range shot against the inside of the post and it rebounded away.
The Lambs made two more changes with ten to play and Donnelly picked up a booking for a solid challenge when play resumed shortly before substitute Oliver Dyson directed his shot from 18 yards up and over the bar.
Jones was booked for time wasting as the clock ticked closer to the 90th minute and the fourth official showed six minutes soon after.
A couple of minutes in, McGlinchey rolled the ball to Lyttle in the right of the area but he screwed his right footed shot well wide of the mark.
The Lambs were forced to finish the game with ten men, when Rye was shown a second yellow following a tackle on Main as he received the ball on the edge of the final third and there was just time for final push upfield, but Jones was always going to get to a high ball looking for Creaney and the final whistle blew on defeat for The Lambs.
