National League Cup - match abandoned

Tamworth FC13 Aug - 20:30

Lambs and Devils required to call the game off at half time following injury on the field

Due to the nature of an injury to United's Sekou Kone just before half time, and his immediate an ongoing medical requirements, the game had to be abandoned before it could be restarted for the second period.

All at Tamworth Football Club would like to send very best wishes to the player for his recovery.

After the opening day visit of Scunthorpe United The Lambs took a break from Enterprise National League action to welcome Manchester United U23s to the Altair Community Stadium in their first National League Cup fixture of the season.
Andy Peaks utilised his squad, making a number of changes from the opening day fixture, while United’s Travis Binnion fielded a side that featured 17 year old Chido Obi, who had moved from Arsenal to The Red Devils in 2024 and made a number of first team appearances for the Manchester club alongside Tyler Fletcher son of the former United player, Darren.
The Lambs kicked off towards the Castle End and Ponticelli nearly opened the scoring after 12 seconds with a half volley from the left of the area that went into the side netting.
After the explosive start, the game settled quickly and after a change of shirt for visiting captain Devaney United forced a corner which United kept possession from until Donkor dealt with via a hefty clearance.
Baumann worked the ball well to get a tight angled shot across the face of goal on 10 and United moved the ball around well from the back until Sayer prevented Overy from latching onto a through ball from Scanlon on 13.
After a prolonged period of keep ball Kamason struck the right hand upright with an angled strike from the right of the box and Digie got tangled with Obi as The Lambs cleared the resulting danger.
Tamworth were not being given a moment to think as United moved the ball around fluidly when in possession, but there was a good chance for The Lambs on 24 from Donkor’s cross which Duku got his head to, and Sayer tried a long range effort but it was straight at Murdock.
A lofted and dangerous right sided Sayer corner on 26 was pushed away by the United keeper but Duku managed to hook it back towards goal from close range and struck the crossbar before it was cleared away while at the other end Kamason went toe to toe with Bates, resulting in a goalkick.
A superb Lambs move nearly brought the opening goal on 31 when Donkor made headway out of midfield thanks to Sayer’s through ball, and he found Ponticelli in the box who stabbed it towards goal but Murdock was able to deflect it away as Duku came in but was denied a clean strike at the loose ball by the covering United defender.
A foul on Donkor, in mid-flight down the right on 38 gave Sayer the freekick and his ball tested the reach of Murdock as it flew towards the top left corner.
Singh was then called into action from a Baumann low pushed shot from the edge of the box which the Lambs keeper pushed away for a corner which Curley headed away.
In the final play of the half, and from a Lambs corner on 42, Kone rose to with Duku to try and head the ball away and the players met in the air, and it left the United player prostrate on the ground needing lengthy treatment on the field before he could be taken from the pitch on a stretcher for further assessment.
