Lambs end the league campaign on a high

Tamworth FC25 Apr - 13:43

to hit a Iron for 5 in the end of season sunshine

IN glorious sunshine Andy Peak’s Lambs ended their 2025-26 Enterprise National League season by welcoming already relegated Braintree Town to the Altair Group Community Stadium.

All games in the league kicked off at 12.30pm with DAZN coverage streaming the matches around the globe, although the majority of attention from the watching world was being directed towards the title decider where Rochdale and York City battled it out for the top spot.

Steve Pitt’s visiting Iron side were supported from the terraces by away fans in fancy dress, while The Lambs faithful were hopeful that although Tamworth needed just a point to hit the 60 point mark, and secure 11th position, they would end the league season on a high ahead of the trip to Bescot Stadium for the Birmingham Senior Cup Final against Leamington on Thursday evening.

Peaks made no changes to the starting eleven that had returned from Eastleigh with a point seven days prior, and after a minute’s applause in memory of those fans, friends and family that we lost during the season, Tamworth got the game underway attacking the Meadow Street end.
The Lambs quickly forced a corner off Mols deflected strike and the flagkick eventually fell to Acquaye who drilled a low shot straight at the visiting keeper.
Another move involving Fairlamb, Acquaye and Lynch saw Mols header hooked away for another corner, nd Digie stooped low to head it on target but was thwarted by Kinful-Ansen’s dive.
Fairlamb surged forwards to force another flagkick on 6 which was headed away but in the next move he found Mols with a delightful ball into the box and Mols found the bottom right corner under the dive of the Iron keeper (1-0, 7 mins)
Lynch broke through the right channel on 9 and smashed a shot on target which Kinful-Ansen batted away for get another corner kick which was headed away.
Acquaye found space behind the Braintree defence to strike left footed at the keeper on 14 but Braintree had other ideas and started to push upfield.
And it paid off on 22 when Walker struck a right footed volley from 30 yards past Singh for the equaliser. It rebounded off the station behind the goal and it took a moment for the goal to register with the traveling fans. (1-1, 22 mins)
Kurtaran struck a powerful right footed freekick over the target on 26 and Tamworth restored their lead on 29.
Lynch advanced into the right of the box on 29 and his fierce shot was pushed onto the bar by Kinful-Ansen but it rebounded down kindly for Creaney who was on hand to turn it home from a few yards out (2-1, 29 mins)
A foul on the right corner of Singh’s box on 33 gave Drake the deadball and he lined up his freekick with a wall of three in front of him and squeezed it through forcing Singh to bat it away for a corner which The Lambs were made to defend strongly.
Mols was booked for a foul on Hadi in a similar position on 34 and Drake changed his tactics, curling it up over the wall and just over the corner of bar and post.
Lynch was caught just a yard off side from Creaney’s flick on header which would have released him from the halfway line towards Kinful-Ansen on 41 and on 42 Creaney rolled a pass to his striking teammate. Lynch took it into the box and tried to take it around the keeper, but it was taken off his toes before he could shape to finish it.
One minute added time was shown at the end of the first half

HT: 2-1

Braintree restarted the match but within a couple of minutes The Lambs extended their lead when Mols raced onto a short pass to take it past Smith and the advancing Kinful-Ansen and cooly curled it home into the empty net (3-1, 47 mins)
Hadi found space 25 yards out to shoot but could only put it in the Meadow Steet end, and at the other end a corner was headed by Creaney off a defender for another corner, and from Kurtaran’s flagkick Kinful-Ansen fumbled the ball into the back of his own net (4-1, 52 mins)
Another corner, on 55, came off a Mols strike that was blocked by a defender, and when it came into the box Creaney’s downward header hit Francis-Clarke rather than the back of the net.
Singh had to be on his mark to handle a shot from Battrum on 59 after the Iron midfielder got the better of Fairlamb and hit a low shot from the right of the box, and at the other end Mols turned a header of the target and then looped a half volley similarly.
Dibley-Dias also tried a strike from distance on 64 but again found his target way off, and both sides made a couple of changes before play got back underway.
Mols forced Kinful-Ansen into a one handed stop to deny a powerful finish from 12 yards on 68, and after Maher had seen his shot deflect back out, Milnes hit an exocet strait at the keeper which he held soundly.
Peaks made two more changes with 20 remaining, and Tonks nearly got on the scoresheet soon after turning a Mols ball at the near post on target, only for Kinful-Ansen to drop and smother it.
On 75 Kamara missed a great chance to reduce the arrears, racing onto a fine through ball before lifting it over the target with just Singh to beat and Cooper curler a right footed effort into the arms of the Lambs keeper on 76 at the visitors enjoyed a spell of possession.
Drake picked up a booking for tripping Curley in midfield on 79 and Digie headed the freekick back across the target and out past the near post.
The players of both sides took a drinks break and Lynch took full advantage when play recommenced by taking the ball down the left channel into the area and directing it home inside the far post (5-1, 84 mins)
Tonks sent a long throw into the box on 89 and it forced a corner which Digie headed at Kinful-Ansen.
Five minutes added time was shown at the end of the game, and after the final whistle blew The Lambs squad and management lapped the pitch to the applause of the partisan crowd, before the end of season presentations were made in the clubhouse.
