Singh is the penalty saviour on Easter Monday

Singh is the penalty saviour on Easter Monday

Tamworth FC6 Apr - 15:59

Mols gives Lambs the early lead, Lynch equalises and Fairlamb sees red before Singh saves the day!

On the back of three one nil Enterprise National League victories Andy Peaks' Lambs made the journey to The Shay on Easter Bank Holiday Monday to face Adam Lakeland's 8th placed side, 8 points ahead of The Lambs, themselves back up to 10th ahead of kick off following the Good Friday win over Solihull Moors.

In glorious sunshine, both goalkeepers / captains met in the middle ahead of kick off to decide which way they would kick and Tamworth kicked off, attacking the populated terrace in the first half, behind Johnson' goal, playing into the sun.
And there was an early opening when Cullinane-Liburd's ball was flicked on by Lynch for Isichei but his low shot from the edge of the box took a deflection and went out for a corner. And from Kurtaran's flag kick Mols glanced a near post header inside the far post to give The Lambs the lead with just under a minute on the clock (0-1, 1 min)
Palmer had to be on his guard to get to the ball before Lynch could connect to Mols pass in the next move, and Halifax responded with a sweeping move upfield which ended with a defensive header from Rye and a corner for the home side which came to nothing.
Another deep pass from Mols found Lynch on 7, but he couldn't keep his first touch down and Johnson collected, protected by his defence
The Shaymen moved the ball around in the final third around the thenth minute mark, and Kurtaran's trip set up Turner-Cooke with a freekick which he hit straight at Singh, and on 16 a right channel cross from Warburton was glanced wide of the far post by Harris' header.
Johnson was not troubled by a long range Kurtaran shot on 20 and at the other end on on 24 Morris found the run of Crowe in the left of the area and his shot on the angle towards the near post was well taken by Singh.
Isichei tried his luck with a curling right footed strike from the left, 25 yards out on 25 which Johnson took at height and Kurtaran threaded it through for Lynch to run onto in the box on 26, but Johnson was quick out to close the angle down and deny his attempted knock past the keeper.
Singh was forced to take a low strike from Harris on 28, when the ball ran free from a defensive clearance and The Lambs disrupted play through Rye on 29, with Kurtaran finding Isichie on the left. His cross into the area was met by the overhead kick of Creaney, but he couldn't get his boot around it and it went harmless past the far post.
The songs from the travelling Lambs echoed under the roof of the large stand as Morris smashed a shot on goal forcing Singh into action on 32 and he pushed the strike away from danger.
Singh was booked on 36 for time wasting when taking a freekick and his defence were called into action around 38 when Halifax attacked with but couldn't get the final touch, and when Turner-Cooke found Hmami in the left of the box on 40 he dragged his shot up and over the target from a tight angle.
Singh made a telling save with his legs when Hmami did manage to get his shot from a similar position on target on 42, and from the resulting corner glanced his Mills' central header wide of the far post.
Warburton was well placed to connect with a header on the edge of the six yard box on 45, but completely missed the chance and one minute added time was shown.
Fairlamb forced a corner from a blocked cross on the left which Kurtaran saw headed away and the whistle blew with The Lambs holding the edge.

HT: 0-1

The Shaymen restarted the game but it was The Lambs who had the first half chance when Lynch dragged a pass back for Mols on the touchline and he slid it around the covering defender but it was too close to Johnson and the keeper smothered it before it could get anywhere near Creaney.
Halifax then struck the woodwork when Turner-Cooke popped up at the far post and half volleyed against the post and they thought they have equalised a minute later, but Harris' 50th minute finish was already ruled out for a foul on Cullinane-Liburd in the build up.
Despite a flowing build up out of defence and over the halfway line on 53 involving Kurtaran and Riley, Curley was unable to deliver a telling cross from the byline and Halifax countered forcing a corner on the right which Turner-Cooke sent in right footed and it caused problems until Lynch took control and sent it long and eventually, back to Johnson.
Hmami was booked for a handball, pushing it away from Lynch in midfield on 55, and when the Lambs freekick bore no fruit, Halifax took advantage from the freekick with a direct passing move down the middle of the pitch, which found Turner-Cooke in the box and able to slot it home under Singh (1-1, 56 mins)
And on 58 the home side took the lead, with Smith perfectly positioned to fire home at the back post, although questions will undoubtedly be asked of the Lambs defence who allowed it to come in from the right and reach him on the other side of the six yard box. (2-1, 58 mins)
The Lambs were level on 62 after a strong run from Fairlamb down the left to get away from his marker and his drilled ball into the area was flicked on by Creaney for Lynch to finish at close range to the delight of the travelling faithful (2-2, 62 mins)
Both sides made changes with just over 20 remaining, and Fairlamb forced a corner off Hmami on 70, which Kurtaran aimed for Creaney, but it was headed away.
At the other end Curley was able to redirect a dangerous cross from the right away, as it dropped into the six yard box, with a well timed back header, and when play was allowed to continue after Turner-Cooke and Kurtaran tangled in midfield on 75, the home side advanced forcing Singh into a save at his near post and when it popped up in the box a header from Harris dropped just over the cross bar.
A strong run from Acquaye into the final third set up Kurtaran with a shooting chance on 78, and he took a touch to get a clearer sight on goal but found Johnson in his way, however Creaney finished the chance but it was ruled out for offside.
Singh plucked a well met volley from Harris out of the air with a timely stop on 80, and Lakeland made two further changes as the game entered the final ten minutes.
Kurtaran was booked on 86 for holding back Johnson outside the D, and the Lambs wall lined up a couple of yards inside the box as Warburton set up the freekick but fired high and wide of Singh's goal.
Peaks made three changes in the final couple of minutes of normal time, and seven additional minutes was indicated.
Halifax loaded a freekick into the area and it got stuck between the legs of boath playesr but eventually ran free and when a shot went in on goal it beat Singh but struck Fairlamb on the arm and he was adjudged to have handled it and prevent the goal so was shown a straight red card. Harris stepped up for the penalty and he played it low to the right and found Singh equal to it, pushing it away for a corner which he punched away. However the home side kept possession and forced The Lambs to clear their lines which Tonks did, but Johnson sent it back down the right and Halifax tried again.
A foul on McGlinchey on 90+6 stopped play for a moment, and Singh took the freekick, sending it long for Reidnforf but his run and cross went out of play.
There was just time for one more passage of play before the final whistle blew after Cullinane-Liburd was upended and Singh sent the freekick downfield for Kurtaran to force a last ditch flagkick which they kept in the corner until the whistle blew on a hard fought point.
