After Saturday’s goalless point away at the Boston Community Stadium, Andy Peaks’ Lambs welcomed Neil Gibson’s Robins to the Altair Group Community Stadium as 13th took on 15th in the Enterprise National League, with two points separating the two sides.
Earlier in the season Tamworth had recorded a 2-1 victory over the visitors at Moss Lane, then under the managership of Phil Parkinson, and would be looking to repeat the three point haul with a first league win since 03 January, having drawn 5 of the 6 league games since, losing narrowly by a solitary goal, in the other.
Peaks made no changes to the side that started in Lincolnshire, and Ben Milnes came in for Dan Rachel in the only change on the bench.
Altrincham kicked off the game towards the Castle End, and the first action came on 7 when Tonks throw fell to Lynch but his shot into the box was blocked and Tonks followed up with a wayward effort.
Reddin showed great skill and trickery in the Lambs box on 8 but was unable to get past Fairlamb and played halted when the offside flag was eventually raised.
At the other end, Kurtaran found Lynch but his run into the area was halted by Sassi and Alty countered, forcing a corner on the left on 11 which came to nothing.
Rye’s cross from the right on 13 gave Hutchinson his first real touch of the game and when Mols was upended on the right by Golden on 16 he picked up a booking for his tackle and from Rye’s freekick Digie got a stooping head to it and directed inside the near post from 12 yards to give The Lambs the lead, against one of his former clubs (1-0, 17 mins)
The referee spotted a foul on the edge of the visitors D on 23 setting up Tamworth with a deadball opportunity which Kurtaran curled up and over the wall forcing Hutchinson to palm it away for a Tonks throw by the corner flag.
He received it back and sent it invitingly into the danger area for Cullinane-Liburd to meet with a diving header, but he couldn’t test Hutchinson and the ball looped up and over the crossbar from 12 yards.
Another Tonks throw, but from the Cross Street corner, on 27 as flicked away by a defensive head
Howley lost possession to Reddin on the halfway line on 35 and he threaded it to Howe down the right who forced Singh to tip over his right footed angled drive for a corner, and from the flagkick Sassi headed it towards goal and off the top of the crossbar.
Maher was booked for a tackle on Reddin on 38, and Crawford caught the freekick with his right boot on the volley but put his effort into the road behind Singh’s goal.
Rye tripped Crawford on the edge of the area to set up a freekick for the visitors which came to nothing and one minute added time was played out before the halftime whistle blew.
HT: 1-0
The Lambs made a change at the break replacing Maher with Acquaye on the left of midfield and Tamworth pushed their opponents back in the opening exchanges, with Tonks sending two long throws into the area which the Alty defence dealt with.
The visitors were back on level terms on 52 though, when a quickly taken freekick saw Knowles go through one on one with Singh and he slotted it home despite calls for a moving ball when the kick was taken. (1-1, 52 mins)
Tamworth responded and took the ball down to the edge of the box and he tripped Lynch, bringing him to the floor just outside the area, and the referee had no hesitation in showing him a straight red card.
Mols sent the deadball into the arms of Hutchinson and the keeper was forced to make a save when Rye found Mols who found Acquaye on the left and his strike, on target, was pushed over the bar by the keeper.
From the keeper, Cullinane-Liburd struck and for goal, and Golden pushed it around the post with his hand, earning a ref card and conceding a penalty in the process.
Mols took the spotkick in trademark fashion, and placed it in the left hand side past Hutchinson’s dive and inside the post. (2-1, 59 mins).
Two more Alty players were booked for protesting, before they made a change and play restarted, as The Lambs faced just nine players in front of them for the remaining half hour and Alty reverted to a 4-4-0 formation.
Singh had to deal with a long ball forward and Howe chasing it down, before the Lambs keeper got to it and cleared it from danger.
The Lambs extended their lead on 72 though, striking the ball with venom from 20 yards on an angle from the left and despite Hutchinson’s best efforts he couldn’t keep it out (3-1, 72 mins)
And another was added four minutes later when Rye got into the box on the right and slotted it home past Hutchinson, into the far corner (4-1, 76 mins), and the keeper had to get treatment for cramp before play could resume.
Acquaye fired wide of the far post from the left on 81, as The Lambs made two changes for the final ten minutes with Isichie and Roberts coming on.
Eight added minutes were shown at the end of the game, and Bates replaced Howley for the final throws of the match.
Cullinane-Liburd saved the best until last with a driven right footed shot from distance which dipped past Hutchinson and rippled the net to the delight of the home faithful (5-1, 90+4 mins) before the final whistle blew.
