Mols brushes aside penalty disappointment to make a point

After the midweek Birmingham Senior Cup victory over Alvechurch, Andy Peaks’ Lambs welcomed Nicky Featherstone’s 9th placed Monkey Hangers to the Altair Group Community Stadium at The Lamb in a return to Enterprise National League action.

Peaks had brought in Michael Reindorf from Cardiff City on loan for the midweek game, and two more loanee’s arrived at The Lamb before the weekend as Daniel Isichei and Ryan Howley joined the squad from Birmingham City and Bristol Rovers respectively.
With rain showers covering the town, United got the game underway with The Lambs attacking the Meadow Street end in the first half.

A threaded pass from John down the left channel to Charman on 4 saw the latter through on goal but he could only find the side netting with his strike past Singh.
Holohan advanced to the edge of the area on 11 amid shouts of handball from the stands and struck low to the left of the target.
A good move involving Reindorf and Tonks resulted in the first corner of the game when Mols went up for the dropping cross but had it headed away from him for a flagkick on the left.
United broke from the corner through Holohan and advanced into a wide open space, passing to Campbell on the right but the offside flag denied him an further possession.
A defensive back pass went long and behind for another Lambs corner on 18 which Hayes punched away and Cullinane-Liburd was unable to turn and get a shot away before Hartlepool cleared and advanced down the pitch.
Sinclair picked his spot from 25 yards on 23 but found Cullinane-Liburd in the way and when Charman and Holohan combined on 24 Fairlamb got a foot in to prevent the cross, conceding a corner in the process which Mols booted away.
A spell of Tamworth pressure gave Tonks a throw on the right on 26 and Digie just missed his header under pressure from Hayes.
Hartlepool responded with Campbell proving a thorn in the Lambs side once again, but his cross was easily dealt with.
At the other end, on 29, Hayes had to be on his mettle to drop and stop a low Mols shot after he raced onto a through ball into the right of the box, beating Parkes to it before firing on target on the angle.
Sinclair nearly found Sheron’s run into the box with a loaded low pass on 36, but Singh was quickest to it, and on 40 Creaney connected with a Maher ball from the left, but with his back to goal his attempted flick into the far corner was always going wide of the mark.
Charman tangled with Cullinane-Liburd and needed treatment before play could continue on 42, leaving United a man short while The Lambs attacked but the visitors held strong and Reindorf and Mols shaped to shoot in quick succession.
There were shouts for a penalty when Creaney appeared to get around John on 44 and the Lambs striker went to ground, but the referee was having none of it.
Two minutes added time was shown and Sinclair was booked for a challenge on Maher on the halfway line, allowing Singh to send the freekick into the area, and Creaney connected but Hayes pushed it away for a corner.
The keeper punched the flagkick away and Tonks threw short to Fairlamb but despite his cross taking a touch behind for a corner on the left, the half time whistle blew before anything could come of it.

HT: 0-0

The Lambs restarted the game, attacking the Castle End, and Reindorf forced Hayes into a parry to deny him the opening goal on 48 after Kurtaran had set him up. He took a touch to his right and drove for the bottom left corner but Hayes was equal to it.
Parkes cleared the high danger with a boot out of play on 51 but was unable to continue, taking his captains armband off as he received treatment, and Reid replaced him.
Tamworth were awarded a penalty when the ball was handled above shoulder level in the crowded area, and Mols stepped up and fired the spot kick home, but the referee was not happy with the penalty, chalking it off and booking Mols in the process.
And in response Hartlepool took the ball down the left through Charman whose ball found Campbell on the right of the box and he rifled his strike into the bottom left corner (0-1, 58 mins)
But The Lambs came back just a quickly, with Mols rifling home Maher’s centre from the 8 yards out, and past Hayes, with power (1-1, 61 mins)
Creaney nearly forced the ball home from 6 yards on 67 and the half clearance didn’t fall for Maher or Reindorf and United cleared their lines.
Maher forced a left sided corner on 72 and it dropped towards the far post but Cullinane-Liburd was unable to get his head to it and neither could Reindorf, to a curling cross from Creaney on 75.
Substitute Miley forced a corner from a blocked shot on 78 and the flagkick was met by McNally at the far post but he sent it over the target.
A deep cross to the back of Singh’s box on 84 was met by John but he couldn’t get his first time strike on target.
The Lambs made three changes with just a minute remaining and as five added minutes came into view Forbes forced a corner on the right which Creaney met with a powerful header but it went just wide of the near post.
There was just time for one more push as the rain fell, and McNally was booked for kicking the ball away and Singh stopped Charman’s low shot from the left on 97.
With 99 on the clock, Kurtaran set up a freekick in the left channel but it was blocked and cleared as the final whistle blew on a point a piece.
