In the final game of 2025 and following the hefty reversal on Boxing Day away at Solihull Moors, and an extra training session on the back of it, Andy Peaks’ Lambs returned to the Altair Community Stadium and welcomed Adam Lakeland’s Shaymen, four points ahead in 8th place, in the Enterprise National League ahead of kick off.
Peaks made four changes to the side that ran out at Damson Park as The Lambs went in search of an immediate response and change in fortune.
However, Halifax got the game underway attacking the Castle End and quickly won a corner on the left and although Donkor headed it away the Shaymen regained possession working it through to Warburton in the right of the area but he screwed his shot high and wide.
Then, another corner came and it dropped into the crowded area and was squeezed into the back of the net under the body of Singh by Smith (0-1, 03 mins)
Halifax forced another flagkick on 6, again on the left by the clubhouse, which forced The Lambs to defend their lines, and a fourth corner came on 10 off the tackle of Maher on Warburton, and Lynch headed it away.
A deep freekick from the left took a deflection off Hollis for another Halifax corner on 12, the first one by the turnstiles, which came out to Hugill and he smashed his shot over the target from 18 yards.
A Lambs clearance was worked well from Digie to Lynch on the right and he drilled the ball into the area but it was too far ahead of Duku for him to get to.
Johnson threaded the ball to Warburton in the right of the box on 14 and he rolled it towards the far corner, it took a defensive touch for another corner. When the ball came into the box Devonport went down, under close attention from Hollis, looking for a penalty – and was duly booked for his simulation.
However, Harris doubled the lead on 19 when Warburton curled the ball behind The Lambs back line and despite the best efforts of Singh, the Halifax player knocked it home at the second attempt. (0-2, 19 mins)
Both sides worked to get the ball forwards for the next 10 minutes without threatening either keeper and Cappello was booked for bringing Donkor down on 32 and Halifax forced another corner, on the left, on 34 and it was cleared at the second attempt by Lynch.
In an otherwise rare Lambs attack, Maher whipped the ball in from the left channel for Lynch to get his head to on 35 and he tried to glance it on towards goal but gave it too much of a touch and it went high and wide of the mark.
Smith brought Duku down 35 yards from goal on 41, and it set Milnes up with the deadball which he played to Maher but the resulting shot from Milnes was way off what he intended.
Mols worked the ball into the area on 43 and it was cleared at the near post for a first Lambs corner of the game which Maher sent long for Duku but his header went up and wide.
The visitors mounted an attack from defence though with Cappello seeing his shot on the turn put behind for a 45th minute corner as one minute added time was shown and Digie headed it away before the whistle blew.
HT: 0-2
The Lambs restarted the game, attacking the Castle End, and on 48 Milnes sent a freekick from the left by the dugouts, into the box which Digie glanced on but it went back to Johnson.
Johnson was booked for a late challenge on Milnes on 49 and Tamworth did their utmost to regain possession.
Mols dropped a cross into the box on 53 which Donkor headed off target and the defender wa booked on 57 for a clumsy tackle on Hugill.
A foul by Hollis on Hugill gave Halifax the deadball in the right of the D which Hmami lined up to strike right footed but it did not threaten and The Lambs cleared.
In the next stoppage, Peaks made three changes and moved from a three at the back to a four at the back formation before the next chance fell to Maher who sidefooted a shot from the right of the area just onto the roof of the net.
A deep through ball to Lynch was cut out as he shaped to shoot, and the return cross from Maher fell to Enoru on the left of the box but he shot off target as the visiting defence closed him down.
Lynch was caught in the leg by Adetoro and needed treatment on the field on 71 but was OK to continue.
Enoru then did well to keep the ball in play on the left and it came back to Milnes who forced Johnson in to a good stop at his near post which allowed Tamworth to keep the pressure on, and Maher won a corner on the right which came to nothing.
After the first sub by the visitors, Fairlamb was forced to concede a corner, as Halifax pushed up field, on the right which Singh took at height.
The Lambs keeper was happy to watch a glanced header by Harris go wide of his near post on 83 and Tamworth raced to the other end, ending when Enoru went down under a challenge on the left. Milnes sent the freekick into the box but it was eventually booted clear.
A high boot on Milnes was waved away by the referee on 84 but the referee did send Lambs coach Tim Dudding from the dugout shortly after.
Singh pulled off a fine fingertip save to deny Devonports long range effort after Johnson set him up nicely from 30 yards, and Halifax’s corner allowed them to maintain pressure.
Five minutes added time was shown at the end of the game, and Halifax forced a left sided corner on 93, keeping the ball by the flag until Turner-Cooke broke free and sent a strong cross into the box.
A long Tonks throw was punched down by Johnson but Maher couldn’t react quick enough to take a strike at the crowded goalline and the whistle blew on 2025.
