After Monday night's disappointment of departure from the FA Cup to the hands of Leyton Orient, Andy Peaks’ Lambs returned to the Altair Group Community Stadium to try and topple Neal Ardley’s Cards in the Enterprise National League.
Tamworth started the afternoon in 10th place eager to put the previous league defeat by Boston United quickly behind them, while Woking, in 18th place ahead of kick off were looking to extend their unbeaten league run to six games.
Prior to kick off a wreath was laid in the centre circle for Remembrance Day as the ground observed a minutes silence after the Last Post had been played.
With the November sun dropping slowly behind the Castle End the visitors, in yellow, started the game with Tamworth attacking the Meadow Street End in the first half and after a quick burst towards Singh’s goal in the opening minute, The Lambs pushed upfield with Enoru and Creaney combining but without an end product.
At the other end Drewe drilled the ball into the box from the right for Hollis to deal with, and from the ensuing play forced the first corner of the game which Mols cleared. Donkor was unable to keep it in play when Woking worked it into the bottom corner and Singh was happy to take the resulting flagkick at height
Enoru’s cross from the left aimed for Creaney was headed away from him for a Lambs corner on 9 and Maher whipped it over the six yard box but too high for any meaningful touch towards goal.
Mols forced another Lambs corner of Akinola on 11 and Tonks took it but Jaaskelainen punched it clear allowing his teammates to burst forwards, however the close attention of Donkor disrupted the Cards play.
Bates was forced to conceded another corner on 16, cutting out Ward’s cross and the deadball forced Singh to tip it over his bar.
Tamworth countered through Maher and his cross came back out to Tonks who drilled it into the box for Creaney but he scuffed his shot with just the keeper to beat as Woking escaped the clear and present danger and Creaney then received the ball at the near post from Enoru on 22 but found Jaaskelainen in the way of his shot on the turn.
A shot by Andrews deflected off Hollis for another Cards corner on 26 and Singh gathered it at height but the keeper needed treatment shortly after, giving both sides a break for drinks and consultation with their respective benches.
Tonks was able to launch a throw from the right on 31 but Woking won the game of head tennis that followed and Woking kept possession working the ball down into the Lambs half through to Sanderson who picked his spot from 20 yards and fired past Singh, in off the left hand post, past the full length dive of the keeper.
Mols hit the first Lambs chance properly on target on 38 when Maher’s ball from the right fell invitingly but his low angled shot was simple enough for the visiting keeper to drop and smother.
Another Tonks throw forced Jaaskelainen to push it away for a corner from under his own bar on 39 and from the flagkick Mahers ball back in was handled by Akinola outside the box for a freekick which was low and easily cleared.
Tamworth maintained their moment and Enoru was tripped on the left wing so Tonks sent the freekick into the box but it was defended and Maher was booked for a shirt pull.
Ward tried his luck with a left footed strike from 20 yards on 43 which curled harmlessly up and away from the far post, and Sanderson hit one from 30 yards in the next Cards move, and was even further away from troubling Singh.
As four minutes added was shown, Creaney was wrestled to the ground by Okoli and the freekick earned a corner which was strongly defended until it went out of play for Tonks to send into the danger area, but again Woking held strong and countered again with Sanderson striking from the edge of the box, just past the right hand post.
HT: 0-1
Tamworth restarted the game attacking the Castle End and when Enoru was dispossessed Tonks sent another throw into the area but a foul halted play before Donkor could unleash a strike from the edge of the box.
Donkor then forced a corner on the right which resulted in a Tonks throw but Woking broke through Ward and Boatswain to put pressure on at the other end.
When Creaney was brought down just over the halfway line and the Woking player refused to retreat for a quick freekick, Peaks was booked by the referee for showing the same annoyance as the majority of those watching from the terraces.
Boatswain forced Singh it a flying push away from the goal from his drive on 63 and in response Bates was unable to direct his header from Mols right wing cross, on target.
Peaks made two more changes on 70 opting for more fire power with Duku and Lynch coming on, but there was action at the other end when Singh dropped a Woking corner and Donkor had to be quickest to clear the impending danger.
A Lambs corner on 73 was headed away by Okoli as Sayer kept the pressure on, and when Enoru appeared to go down under a challenge in the area on 74 the referee waved the calls for a penalty away.
Digie did well to get his head to a corner which was, in turn, headed away by Okoli and the Woking keeper was booked for timewasting shortly after.
Duku’s hook forwards, looking for the run of Lynch, was headed away for a corner on 81 but it was headed away by Okoli again but Tamworth refused to relent, as the Woking defence continued to
Enoru, trying to make headway down the left, was pulled down by Akinola on 85, earning the Woking man a yellow card, but The Lambs freekick flew through the box with a touch, for a goal kick.
On 88 Hollis was booked for a foul on Akinola which left the player on the ground, and Osude picked up the ball on the right, drilling it low to the left hand post for Singh to smother at the second attempt.
A long ball for Duku saw his shot deflected wide foe a corner in the first of five minutes added time and he connected with it at past the far post but was unable to direct it on target as The Lambs tried to salvage a point
