Lambs come back to extend run to six unbeaten

Digie on the scoresheet again to earn a point against Shrimps

On the back of their midweek comeback victory away at Moss Road over Altrincham, The Lambs welcomed the Shrimps to the Altair Group Community Stadium in the National League as Andy Peaks 7th placed side welcomed Ashvir Singh Johal’s bottom placed squad.
It was always going to be a difficult season for the visitors after the much publicised upheaval and stuttered start to the season, and they came into the game on the back of a couple of hefty defeats looking to change their fortunes sooner rather than later.
For Peaks’ squad, confidence was high as they played their last league game ahead of entry into the FA Cup in a weeks time, and they welcomed Ronan Maher back into the camp after he signed on loan from Walsall and there were four changes to the side that started against Altrincham as Tonks, McGlinchey, Riley and Duku all came into the starting eleven.

Tamworth started the game attacking the Castle End in the first half and Bates was upended as he made headway towards the box inside the first minutes, giving The Lambs and early freekick which Sayer planted on target and Mair saved.
A searching ball in from the right from Nolan on 4 was put high and wide by Tollitt with Donkor on his heels and the Lambs responded with Duku forcing a throw for Tonks to launch from the right on 5 and it beat everyone and nearly dropped into the net, skipping off the back of the six yard box before Duku could get to it.
Nolan tried his luck from 30 yards on 8 and it went just wide of the left hand post with Singh in full flight as the visitors sent a warning shot across the Lambs bow.
Duku was sent to the ground via a hefty shoulder challenge on 12 but the freekick came to nothing and play from both sides was disjointed / disrupted.
Another freekick came The Lambs way on 15 which Riley and Sayer stood over and the latter took it, whipping it into the box but Bates was unable to connect as it flashed past the far post.
Tonks sent another throw from the clubhouse side into the box on 17 which Mair punched over the bar for the first corner but Morecambe defended the flag kick strongly and effectively.
A right footed long range shot from Tollitt curled around the far post without troubling Singh into action on 20 and the visitors maintained their impetus, passing the ball around the midfield without threatening the final third too much.
Morecambe forced their first corner on 25, with a shot off the shins of Tonks as the balance of play around the 30 minute mark continued to swing in the Shrimps favour, but a deep freekick from Riley was not dealt with on 30 and Duku hooked it back into the box for McGlinchey to try a first time volley which he screwed wide of the near post.
Despite some blue skies and sunshine, a rain shower soaked the pitch and fans as Tonks sent a left sided throw into the area on 32 but hesitancy allowed Morecambe to boot the danger away.
There was a yellow card for Nolan following a clumsy challenge on 35 and the deep deadball was flicked behind for a Lambs corner on the right which Riley sent low to the near post and Azeez had to clear his lines quickly with Hollis on his heels.
Sayer touched the ball to Donkor on the right of midfield on 41 but his attempted centre for the advancing Duku was put behind for a corner which came to nothing when a foul was awarded against Tamworth as soon as the ball was kicked.
When the ball dropped to Sayer on 44 his shot ricocheted out for a corner and from the flagkick it fell to Tonks who hit a volley against the post, but the offside flag would have denied him the opening goal had it beaten Mair and the whistle blew after just a handful of added seconds on a goalless first half.

HT: 0-0

Morecambe restarted the game in glorious sunshine, and with the wind at their backs as Fairlamb advanced down the left but saw his double attempted cross blocked.
Tonks spotted an opening in the left channel on 48 and curled his low effort just around the far post, and the McGlinchey’s shot from a similar position on 49 came off the covering defender for a Sayer corner which was half cleared for a Tonks throw on the left which Mair caught at height.
Singh dropped and smothered a low shot from Edwards on 53 without too much trouble, and a quick break out of midfield between Azeez and Edwards was cut out by Tonks but the visitors retained possession until a foul halted proceedings.
Singh’s long ball upfield was flicked on by Duku to the feet of Hollis but he was unable to control it enough to set himself up and Morecambe broke again until a wayward pass from Nolan went out of play.
The Lambs made two changes on the hour with Maher and Ponticelli coming on before Tonks threw from the left and it dropped off the head of Duku out to Maher but his first touch and shot of the game rose over the target.
At the other end, Edwards had space from 18 yards to drive a low shot just wide of the left hand post on 64 and Tamworth celebrated when Ponticelli overhead kicked the ball past Mair from close range on 66, but it was ruled out for a foul in the build up.
Two corners in quick succession for Morecambe came on 69 and Duku booted it away off the line and at the other end Digie got his head onto a corner only to see Kacurri head it away.
Tonks launched a pair of throws into the box on 74 as The Lambs tried to maintain possession and pressure but Morecambe countered through Edwards who turned his marker inside out and curled it past Singh into the bottom left corner (0-1, 75 mins)
Peaks made three changes following the goal and The Lambs formation visibly changed into a more attacking push upfield and from a corner on 80 Digie rose high and powered his header home for the equaliser (1-1, 80 mins)
Maher sent a freekick into the area on 89, which Mair collected as six minutes added time was shown and former Lamb Raihky came on for the remainder for the visitors.
A late chance for the Morecambe came in the 96th minute when Tollitt broke the left channel into the box and angled his low shot across the face of the goal and it went out just past the far post.
Extended stoppage time, saw Lynch need treatment for a knock and there was time for a final substitution before the final whistle blew on a point a piece.
