After the superb three point haul from the long trip to and from Essex on Tuesday night, Andy Peaks’ Lambs returned to the Altair Community Stadium and welcomed Kelvin Davis’ Spitfires as Tamworth sat in 15th place on 7 points from six games, 2 points behind 10th placed Eastleigh.
Peaks made no changes to the eleven that ran out at Cressing Road as The Lambs went in search of more points on the Enterprise National League table.
The Lambs kicked off the game towards the Meadow Street End and on 2, after a deft touch from Fairlamb to Mols set Enoru away and doing all the hard work to take the ball from the left wing into the area past two defenders, the attacking winger struck over the bar from 18 yards.
And another sublime turn and low cross from Enoru earned a corner off the defensive block of Holzman on 10, which was cleared away from the head of Hollis.
Hollis was penalised for a foul on McCallum on 11, which Digie hooked away as the same player broke into the box from the chipped deadball, only to be denied by resolute defending.
Mols then threaded the ball through for Enoru to run onto on 18, but it was taken off his toes by Holzman.
Another long Tonks throw, from the left on 21, came back to him to recycle and he aimed for Hollis but Eweka got his head to it first, and in the next move, from a freekick into the box, Hollis nodded it on for Duku but it dropped too far away from the striker and Townsend collected easily.
Bates found Donkor on the right to attack down the wing and he sent a searching ball into the box on 24, but it also dropped too long.
Then, from a hopeful shot for the visitors which went into the arms of Singh on 27, The Lambs broke and there was confusion at the back as Townsend came but didn’t gather the loose bouncing ball which allowed Enoru to nip into the gap and lob the keeper, but the ball struck the right hand upright and rolled to the right, out of play for a goal kick.
Tamworth were awarded a penalty on the half hour when Duku connected with a ball into the box which Townsend missed, and when Eweka clattered into the striker and sent The Lambs number 9 tumbling, the referee showed him a red card. Townsend needed treatment before Duku stepped up to take the spot kick and he hit it low to the keeper’s right but Townsend smothered it to deny The Lambs the lead.
Donkor was booked for a foul on McCallum on 37 and the freekick was straight at The Lambs keeper and then Pierre was booked for a shoulder into the midriff of Duku from Singh’s ball upfield.
A deep cross for Duku found the striker at the far post, but under pressure from Brindley he was only able to head away from goal as eight minutes added time was shown at the end of the first half.
Tamworth pressed, with every player bar Singh, in the Eastleigh half and Sayer was involved in two great moves, first he was denied at the near post and then a low ball into the box was taken away from Duku by Holzman as it skipped towards the far post and the half time whistle blew.
HT: 0-0
After three false starts to the second half, the visitors got the game back underway with Tamworth attacking the Castle End.
The Lambs pegged Eastleigh back early on and took the initiative as Enoru forced a corner from which Duku rose highest to head home into the far corner (1-0, 49 mins)
A foul on Enoru on the left allowed Bates to send a freekick into the box on 51 which Mols got his head to, but could only glance it at Townsend from 8 yards, and when Donkor was tripped by Davis, earning the latter a booking, Sayer’s freekick evaded the Spitfire defence, but also The Lambs incoming attack and Townsend smothered it low.
An enforced throw for Tonks on the right on the hour came to Enoru whose blocked strike resulted in a corner but the ball was half cleared and the resulting header from Duku dropped high and wide.
Then, a first corner of the game came for the visitors arrived after a long throw was headed behind by Digie on 66, and Singh caught it easily.
Skills from Enoru got him into a great position to find Mols in the box on 67, who forced Townsend to parry his effort, and although Enoru and Duku chased the high dropping ball the offside flag would have denied either of them a close range finish.
Mols was in close quarters with the keeper again on 68 after Sayer beat Davis in the box and it was his final contribution to the game as he was replaced by Ponticelli shortly afterwards.
An Eastleigh through ball from Saunders to Blair saw the latter go toe to toe with Digie on 75 and when he went down there were calls for a foul on the edge of the Lambs area but the referee waved them away so Tamworth countered with Enoru finding Sayer in the right channel but his left footed strike was simple for Townsend to stop.
The Lambs were then reduced to ten men on 77 when Donkor and Blair went shoulder to shoulder and the Eastleigh man went to ground, resulting in a second booking for the bemused Lambs defender.
Both sides made changes while Singh received treatment on 83, and there were more changes with a couple of minutes remaining before Ponticelli turned and span for a close range shot as the game passed the 90 minutes mark into added time and a Lynch cross was turned behind by Taylor for a corner on the left on 93.
Play continued without any real chances, until Davis loaded a cross into the box which Singh had to take, and Roberts tried a shot from the right of the box which failed to trouble Townsend.
Roberts then sent a deep cross from the right for Lynch and he tried to cushion a volley goalward but lifted it over the target, and with 56 second half minutes played, the visitors forced a corner off Hollis.
Pushing for a late late equaliser, every player on the field, including keeper Townsend, packed the Lambs box and another corner was awarded on the opposite side before the final whistle eventually blew and gave The Lambs their second win in two.
