Lambs spot on again for cup final appearance

Lambs spot on again for cup final appearance

Tamworth FC31 Mar - 21:00

Silverware is on the cards for the second season running

The Lambs took a break from Enterprise National League action to welcome former boss Mike Fowler's Southern Premier League Central side to the Altair Group Community Stadium for the Semi Final of the Birmingham Senior Cup with a final against either Hednesford Town or the winners of Leamington v Coleshill Town on the cards.
It was the first time the two sides had met since that fateful day at the end of the 2022-23 season when victory at The Valley saw Tamworth win the first of their two back to back promotions.

Andy Peaks used his squad for the fixture, welcoming a number of Academy players back into the dressing room too, as they continued their defence of the cup.

United kicked off with Tamworth attacking the Meadow Street End in the first half, and the visitors had more of the opening play, forcing a corner off the head of Nyankuhwa which was played high and long into the back of the box and Foreshaw cushioned his header over the crowded area and it dropped inside the far post to give his side the lead (0-1, 04 mins)
After The Lambs restarted, Bunn struck from the right channel towards the left hand corner with a right footed effort on 6 which Singh dropped and smothered, and at the other end a Tonks throw was taken well by keeper Neeson in amongst a crowd of players.
Tamworth were level on 10, a strong run from Isichie down the left took him to the edge of the area and he drilled it into the near post for Jasper to meet and turn inside the near post for his first senior goal (1-1, 10 mins)
Warbuton tried a low shot from the edge of the box on 12 which Singh was equal to, and when United captain Cameron tumbled into the area after coming together with Cockerill-Mollett on the edge of the area, shouts for a foul or penalty were not entertained by the referee.
Tonks launched a number of throws in the area in the coming minutes, but found Neeson or a defensive block in the way of his teammates, and a corner resulted which came out and popped up invitingly for Hollis on 24, but his left footed half volley was always going wide of the mark.
At the other end, Loughlan nearly beat Hollis to a bouncing ball towards the area on 27 and the Lambs defenders clearance ricocheted off the United forward and out for a goalkick.
And on 34 Bunn hit a first time shot from 18 yards off a Lambs boot for a corner on the left which Reindorf cleared to Isichie and he raced to the other end and forced a similar corner, which Tonks sent long for Reindorf to chase. He took it past his marker and pulled it back to the egd of the box for Tonks to strike, but it curled off his right boot laces into the hoardings.
Then, Isichie took the ball towards the box and into the D before being tripped by former Lamb Aram Soleman who was booked for his efforts. Reindorf lined up the deadball and after the referee had drawn his line in the box for the Redditch defence he struck it right footed into the wall but picked up the rebound and struck again only for it to bend away from the right hand upright.
Bunn exposed a small gap in the Lambs back line on 42 to fire a low strike at Singh which he was happy to take in his hands.
Three minutes added time was shown at the end of the half and Jasper struck a sweet shot from 25 yards which dipped just over the top of the crossbar with Neeson at full stretch.
But Jasper made no mistake on 47 when Reindorf picked the ball on the right and drilled it towards the near post for him to meet with a powerful finish which the United keeper couldn't keep out (2-1, 45+2 mins)

HT: 2-1

Tamworth got things back underway, attacking the Castle End, and on 49 Ishichies ball from the left was fumbled by Neeson but Reindorf was unable to turn quick enough to force it past the floored keeper from 6 yards out and Singh had to stoop to stop a toe prodded attempt from Warburton from the edge of the area on 50.
Jasper was booked on 53 for holding onto the ball after conceding a freekick in the Redditch half, and from the deadball United advanced and Loughlan headed on target without troubling Singh too much.
After Jasper's cross was put behind for a corner on 58, Cockerill-Mollett got his head onto Tonks' flagkick but directed it over the far corner of the target, however in the next move good work from Isichie found Reindorf 8 yards out and he passed the ball past Neeson into the bottom right to extend the lead (3-1, 59 mins)
Redditch pushed up after they kicked off and Cameron when down in the area under the close attention of Hollis on 61 but despite shouts from behind Singh's goal from the 70 or so travelling fans, none of the officials flinched at the penalty shout.
Cockerill-Mollett was then booked for complaining about the lack of a foul when he went down under a hefty challenge on 64.
A long range strike from Loughlan on 66 failed to trouble Singh, who watched it go high and wide of the mark, but he was unable to stop Redditch scoring on 71 in bizarre circumstances when Hollis got the ball first and lifted it over his own keeper, off the near post and into the net despite the best efforts of Cockerill-Mollett (3-2, 71 mins)
The duo nearly restored the advantage on 73, with the latter taking the ball into the box and around Neeson before driving his left footed shot off the cross bar, and it came out to Hollis who struck low and hard but Neeson was well placed to drop and smother the goalbound effort.
King deflected a cross off Curley for a Redditch corner on the left on 77 and it was headed back towards goal, but ultimately high and over the crossbar by Loughlan, before Jasper was replaced by Riley.
Tonks sent two long throws in the area on 86, the first was headed away and the second nearly fell to Reindorf but he was unable to turn it back into the area, and when the ball went out of play The Lambs made two more changes.
As the time ticked towards and into the 90th minute, players from both sides needed treatment on the field for cramp, and Nyakuhwa had to be replaced by Digie for the final throws of the game.
Six minutes added time had been shown, and Redditch pushed on for a late equaliser to take it to penalties.
Bates did what was needed to prevent Fielding from getting a shot away from the right of the area on 94, and Digie cut out a low cross from King a minute later, but there was nothing Singh could to to prevent Soleman's equaliser - a right footed drive from fully 30 yards which dipped up and over Singh into the far corner (3-3, 90+5 mins) to take the game to kicks from the penalty mark.

PENALTIES at the Meadow Street End, Redditch first
1: Loughlan - low left to Singh's right into the far corner / Riley - sent Neeson the wrong way, into the bottom right - 1-1

3: King - low right under Singh's dive / Shumba - smashed it home into the bottom left corner - 2-3
