Lambs break Glassboys hopes from the spot

Tamworth FC18 Mar - 21:59

to set up home Semi Final against Redditch United

After Saturday’s impressive victory over promotion chasing Carlisle United at The Lamb, and with a trip to table topping Rochdale coming in a few days time, Andy Peaks’ squad made the journey to the War Memorial Ground for their Birmingham Senior Cup Quarter Final tie against midtable Southern Premier League Central side Stourbridge, with former Tamworth player Darryl-Knights the assistant Glassboys boss.

There were a number of returning players and new faces in the squad as The Lambs aimed to continue their quest to retain the silverware they lifted in 2024-25, and those players who came into the matchday squad from outside the usual first team selection have been highlighted below with their first names in brackets.

The home side got the game underway attacking the sparsely populated covered stand at the opposite end to the clubhouse, and after a quick foray forwards, McGlinchey and Reindorf combined with the former forcing a corner on the right which was aimed for the head of Tonks but headed away from him before he could connect.
Tonks was given the opportunity to launch a throw from the main stand side into the box on 9, and it deflected off a Stourbridge defender for a corner which came out to Reindorf in the left of the area and after a good touch to take it down on the turn he unleashed a powerful volley just wide of the near post with Price in full flight.
A well placed pass through to Jasper from McGlinchey on 10 resulted in a low strike which he dragged wide of the opposite upright, and Tonks sent the ball in from the right touchline again on 13 but it was cleared and recycled by Tonks but only back to Price.
A break down the left by Reindorf on 18 then set McGlinchey up with a sidefooted strike from 18 yards but he didn't connect cleanly enough and it skipped out past the right hand upright.
Bood forced a Stourbridge corner on the left with a cross which deflected off Curley which Carter flicked on for Thompson-McKenzie but he directed his header over the bar from 6 yards.
The same player then got in the way of a Singh clearance and nearly capitalised but Hollis got back quickly to block the opportunity and concede a corner which the defender header high over his own bar for another on the opposite side which Singh was unable to hold and Hollis was cleared the danger again.
From a Tonks throw on the left on 27 Cockerill-Mollett clipped a half volley over the target but on 34 the home side took the lead when Thompson-McKenzie made headway down the right, cut into the box and fired low under Singh to the delight of the partisan home crowd (1-0, 34 mins)
McGlinchey lofted a cross from the right into the back of the box on 38 which Hollis met but was unable to get on target, and on 39 Reindorf ran through down the left channel onto a Tonks freekick but found Price quickly out to deny him a shooting chance.
Edge made a strong run down the middle with Reindorf on his heels, and when it popped up invitingly for him he unleashed a right footed strike which dropped onto the top of the net, and one minute added time was shown before the whistle blew.

HT: 1-0

The Lambs restarted proceedings but the first chance fell almost immediately to Verma who cut into the box and angled a shot low on target past Singh, and Hollis cleared it off the line, but only as far as Lewis who drilled it low on target again and Singh was able to gather it.
A long deep freekick from the halfway line from Singh on 52 fell for Cockerill-Mollett to head on target, and Price took it at his near post, and Tonks sent in a throw on 53 and Jasper hooked it over the keeper and as Hollis followed it in it came off a Stourbridge player and also the crossbar before anyone was really sure if it cross the line for the equaliser (1-1, 53 mins)
Another Tonks throw was headed behind by Edge for a Lambs corner on the right on 56 which Stourbridge broke from, down the left with Pavey being halted in his progress by Curley for a Glassboys freekick and after initial shouts of handball against Reindorf which were waved away Tamworth cleared their lines.
Verma forced a home corner on the right off his low cross on 61 and it came to nothing, and was his last contribution to the game, with Batchelor coming on to replace him soon after.
Reindorf looped a shot from the right of the area towards the top right corner on 65 but Price managed to get a hand to it and the keeper had to react quickly to bat away the ball as it dropped and span in front of him too.
Had Isichie been able to get past his covering defender, he may have been able to get onto the end of a curling shot come cross from the right from Reindorf, but as it was it skipped out past the post.
At the other end, a strong run from Pavey found Thompson-McKenzie and he pulled it back for Batchelor but he blazed it high over the target and then a Tonks throw dropped into a crowded Stourbridge box which meant that Reindorf's shot was blocked as it went towards goal.
And a flowing move down the middle saw Jasper feed Reindorf who found McGlinchey and his andled shot took a deflection wide past Price for a corner.
Stourbridge broke away upfield though, and Thompson-McKenzie pulled a low ball into the edge of the area from the left for Edge, and with Nyakunwa bearing down on him he struck off target.
Shumba made his debut, coming on for Isichei on 81 and immediately got involved, forging his way into the box but his final ball was cleared at the near post by Carter.
McGlinchey then drove low, from the right of the box, wide of the right hand post on 83 and Knights came on for the final few minutes, with penalties the decider if the scores remained level at full time, but he had other ideas and drove past the left hand post from 20 yards out.
Five minutes added time was shown and Thompson-McKenzie's cross came off Nyankunwa for a corner on the right which Singh helped onto the head of Batchelor and out for a goalkick.
McGlinchey's cross from the right corner was blocked, so Riley took the flagkick on 93, but Stourbridge were able to clear it and advance with Pavey striking low and on target, to force Singh into a low stop.
Reindorf made headway to the right byline on 95, and pulled it back for first Riley and then Jasper but both of the Lambs efforts were blocked as they headed for goal, and Stourbridge immediately countered with Thompson-McKenzie denied by a perfectly timed last ditch challenge from Nyakunwa to deny him a strike on target and the referee waved away shouts for a penalty and the final whistle blew...
