Lambs defeat Tigers in third run out

Tamworth FC14 Jul - 08:11

Singh's first half penalty save spurs side on

Tamworth were on the road again for their 3rd preseason friendly of 2025-26 visiting Sandy Lane for the first time since a meeting with The Tigers in the FA Trophy in December 2011.

Andy Peaks used his squad to field ‘two sides’ against the National League North team, and came away with second preseason victory in three runouts, and many more valuable match minutes for his squad.

Fans were treated to a goal straight from the off as Tamworth went ahead, working the ball up the pitch in the opening seconds and it reached a trialist in the final third who opened himself some space and blasted the ball past the keeper. (0-1, 1 min)
Despite lots of tidy football from Tamworth the Lambs were unable to create any real chances after the opener while Worksop tried to create openings themselves, but the Lambs stayed strong.
On 22, Whitham struck, trying to find the far corner, and it hit the arm of Digie, down by his side, but the referee pointed to the spot. There was not much The Lambs defender could have done about it but a penalty was the result and Singh faced the spotkick.
The Lambs keeper dived the right way to deny Worksop an equaliser, with another great penalty stop.
Due to the scorching temperatures the sides enjoyed a drinks break on 30, and with chances at a premium The Lambs took their one goal lead into the half time dressing room.

HT: 0-1

Following a number of changes at the break, including the first ‘appearance’ of new signing Stefan Mols, The Lambs repeated their first half scoring feat by doubling their tally with a minute on the second half clock.
A Tonks set-piece was delivered into the box and Digie powered the header home (0-2, 46 mins).
And it could have been three after 56 minutes. a quickly taken free-kick catching out the Worksop back line and striking the crossbar.
But it was on 70, Mols was released behind the defence to drive towards goal and the Spaniard squared the ball across the box to a trialist who added the third of the afternoon.
Bramall did his best to make a dent in the scoreline, first beating a man and driving forward but saw his strike whistle past the post late on.
