The Lambs Continue Winning Run as Creaney Hits 100 Goals

The Lambs Continue Winning Run as Creaney Hits 100 Goals

Tamworth FC21 Mar - 13:52

Pushing for history, one game at a time!

Tamworth made it four wins from their last five games on Tuesday evening, with manager Andy Peaks full of praise for his squad.

“A winning habit is a great habit to have, and we continued our good form with a 4-1 victory over Solihull in the Birmingham Senior Cup. To be fair, the scoreline flattered us a bit, as we were level until the final ten minutes when the Tonks and Creaney show took over with three quick goals! I made ten changes from the team that started against Dagenham & Redbridge, so it was great for some players to get valuable minutes.”

Peaks highlighted some standout performances, including Luke Fairlamb, who made a welcome return from injury at left-back, and Matt Curley, who put in a strong 90-minute shift at right-back. Danny Waldron also impressed with a superb goal and has the potential to be a big asset, though he needs more game time after limited appearances for Southend United.

However, the night wasn’t without setbacks, as Jordan Cullinane-Liburd felt his groin, while Ben Milnes and Arjan Raikhy picked up knocks. Their availability for upcoming matches remains uncertain.

Creaney Hits 100 Goals & Ronan Shines on International Duty

Peaks paid tribute to Dan Creaney, who recently reached a landmark 100 goals for the club.

“He’s been brilliant for me since I arrived, and scoring 100 goals for one club is a fantastic achievement. He took his penalty really well at Dagenham last weekend, which set us up for the win. Some doubted whether he could perform at this level, but I always knew he would cause problems for opposition defences – I’m delighted he’s proved them wrong.”

Meanwhile, Ronan Maher’s stunning strike at Dagenham has been a major talking point, though the team will miss his presence this weekend as he joins up with the Republic of Ireland U21 squad for international duty.

Making History – A New Club Record in Sight

Tamworth have already made headlines by securing back-to-back promotions, but Peaks believes they have a chance to achieve something even greater this season.

“We could set a new club record for the highest points total and highest-ever league finish. To do this as a part-time club in a full-time league would be an even bigger achievement than our two title wins. We’ll give everything to win as many games as possible in the final run-in.”

Looking Ahead: A Tough Test at Gateshead

The Lambs now face a long trip to Gateshead on Saturday, where Peaks expects a tough challenge.

“I’m surprised they’ve lost their last two home games to Maidenhead and Braintree because they’re a very good side pushing for the play-offs. We did beat them at The Lamb, and it would be fantastic to do it again, but I just hope we’re not on the receiving end of their response to those defeats! It’s a long journey for us, whereas full-time teams have the luxury of travelling the night before.”

Success Across the Club

It’s been a great week for Tamworth’s youth sides. The U19s booked their place in the final of the National League U19 Alliance League Cup after a 4-2 win over Kidderminster Harriers, with details on the final to be confirmed soon.

Meanwhile, the U18s host Alvechurch in the semi-final of the Colin Lowe Memorial Trophy at The Lamb on Friday night (KO 8:00 PM).

On Saturday, if you’re not heading to Gateshead, why not support the U23/Reserves as they face Hednesford Town in the Midland Football League Development Challenge League Trophy (KO 3:00 PM).

Finally, on Sunday, Tamworth Women travel to face AFC Telford United Women in a league clash at Telford College (KO 2:00 PM).

With all teams pushing for success, there’s plenty to look forward to as the season reaches its climax!
