The journey began in 1984 and as I look back over the past 42 years I have a lot to be thankful for and memories to treasure. John Bayliss, Dave Baxter and myself stepped in when the club was on its death bed and with careful guidance the Lambs have risen to the top table of Non League football. With new investment coming into the club, hopefully we can see Tamworth with a Football League club in the very near future.
The journey would not have happened without the many people - too many to name individually, who have helped along the way. I want to personally thank all those who have served as directors and given much of their time and talents to help guide the club. We would not have been able to survive financially without our generous sponsors and VIPs who have not only given financially, but in goods and services too. The many volunteers who have given their time freely to serve on match days and during the week, I want to thank you too. Non League clubs can't exist without a community of volunteers, sponsors and local businesses that give their time and services, and I am incredibly grateful for everything you have done. In recent years we have seen the rise of Teambuilder and I want to thank all the volunteers that have served on the committee to raise vital funds for the first team manager. The most important group of course are you the supporters. You have given the club brilliant support not just at home, but spending your hard earned money to travel the country to make your voices heard and get behind the team. Along with the Supporters Club who have served the club well, you have my thanks.
We have experienced some fantastic memories on the field. There have been too many to list in the past 42 years and I am sure you will all have your favourite moments. For me, getting to the finals of the FA Vase and FA Trophy standout, as well as some great FA Cup games against Bournemouth, Stoke City, Norwich City, Everton and Tottenham Hotspur. We have seen many promotions - always as champions, and triumphs in the Birmingham Senior Cup too. I want to thank the many managers and players that have worked and played at the club over the time I have been here, and no doubt for newer supporters what has happened over the past 4 seasons with Andy at the helm has been amazing. I have made many friends with officials of opposing clubs over the years and I will miss meeting them and the challenge of playing against them.
But Tamworth FC is not just about the first team, we are a community club and back in 2016 a large investment in the pitch and the building of the classrooms enabled us to start our Academy, Scholars and Women's teams. This has seen the club in use everyday of the year and I am incredibly grateful for every person that has given their time to make this programme the success it is.
We have seen some ground improvements over the past few years with new floodlights, refurbished clubhouse and Fan Zone. But to be a club that is challenging for the Football League we need new investment in the ground. With Abdullah coming in as the new custodian of the club I want to wish him every success and I am certain he and his new team will do very well. I for one am looking forward to supporting the team in the Football League!
I want to conclude by thanking my right hand man over the past 24 years, Steve Lathbury who is also standing down. He has given everything to this club and his expertise behind the scenes has been invaluable - thank you Steve.
Up the Lambs!
