SILVA STRIKES GOLD ON DEBUT

SILVA STRIKES GOLD ON DEBUT

Tamworth FC

Academy player Vanylson Silva showed his pride on Tuesday evening as he scored a goal on his debut for Tamworth in the National League Cup.

He scored the final goal in what was a 5-3 thriller against Newcastle United, having come on late in the second half. Other goals came from Nathan Tshikuna, Tom McGlinchey and a brace from Jake Hutchinson.

Silva said: “Honestly, I’m lost for words, I’m buzzing.

“One thing I can say is, I don’t let the moment get to me. You’re full of excitement, you don’t know what’s to come or what’s to happen but I think I was just focused on making sure I was doing the basics, and I ended up scoring.”

Newcastle began the game brightly, but two quick goals from the Lambs saw them edge in front. Silva knew it would be a tricky test.

He said: “Coming against any academy team is always going to be a hard graft, especially that they’re fit, younger than all of us, and I think we have to just come into every game, work together, and stick to the basics, have our principles in place and make sure we get the result as shown today. It’s definitely an intense game, but the result says it all.”

Discussing his goal, he said: “When I got onto that second ball, and made sure I was a passing option, there was only one thought in my mind: run at the defender and take the shot on. I think, as one of the players mentioned, any other young player would pass the ball, but I just backed myself to take those chances.

“I had a second one as well. I was upset with myself because normally I’m good at assisting, but you can’t have them all. It’s just a proud moment.

“I’ve always had belief in myself. I know I can’t just jump from Step 3 to National League and perform, but what I can say is I’ll give 100%. I know what I’m about, and I think that’s a statement. Going back to pre-season, playing against Tamworth on dual reg, I ended up scoring and assisting. Not only am I able to play with a National League side, I’m also able to play against a National League side and perform as well.”

439 fans were in attendance on Tuesday evening, and Silva thanked them for their support.

“It’s always good to score in front of the fans and give them what they deserve, what they came here to watch, and there’s nothing else I can say other than I hope more chances come about and I’m able to provide and give the fans what they need, for the team, the staff and everyone else.”
