Morgan Roberts was pleased with Tamworth’s collective work ethic on Friday night after they came back from behind to win 3-2, with his goal sealing the three points for the Lambs.

Roberts came off the bench to secure the winner deep into stoppage time, four minutes after fellow substitute Nathan Tshikuna levelled the scores at 2-2.

He said: “From looking on the sideline, the lads worked their socks off all game. That’s why we’ve got this squad. The likes of me, Nathan [Tshikuna], Olly [Dyson], Hutch [Jake Hutchinson], all coming off the bench and making an impact, that’s what the squad’s for, that’s what we train for, and to have those last minute scenes is not something you get all the time, but it’s a good feeling when it happens.”

The late winner demonstrated the squad’s perseverance and mentality, something with the club prides itself on. Roberts acknowledged the importance of that aspect of the game.
He said: “I’ve played against Tamworth throughout the years and I think players of opposition come here and feel that never-say-die attitude.

“You feel that work rate from everyone, and the impact we needed to make, we just needed to get back to ourselves. The last few games, we were off it a little bit in terms of being hard to beat, and that sort of Tamworth mentality.

“It’s tough going down against a team at home, especially a team like Worthing who like to get the ball down and play football, but the lads dug deep and the impact from the bench was that Tamworth mentality that we really needed.”

Touching on how he scored his goal, Roberts said: “Probably one of the hardest I’ve ever done, really.”

“They went down to nine men at one point. We knew we needed to take advantage of that. They were defending for their lives and we were putting balls in the box, we knew one would drop as it did for my goal. I just wanted to be in and around the six yard box and hopefully one would fall for me like that. It was tough but I managed to put it away, and you’ve seen the celebrations afterwards with the lads together.”
