PEAKS THOUGHTS POST AFC FYLDE

PEAKS THOUGHTS POST AFC FYLDE

Archie Baynham

Manager Andy Peaks shared his disappointment with the defeat to AFC Fylde as his side failed to take their chances in the game.

Kieren Donnelly opened the scoring in the tenth minute, but two goals in quick succession saw Fylde overturn the lead.

Peaks said: “Very disappointed. We got a great point last week at Boreham Wood. I made it clear to the lads that it would only become a good point if we picked up points today, and we haven’t.

“We have to defend better. We’ve had a mad five minutes of conceding two goals. A bit similar in a way to last week where we conceded two in five minutes, and we can’t do that. We’ve had enough chances. I didn’t think we were great first half, but we still should’ve been a couple up, minimum. In the end, we come in 2-1 down, which gave them a lift, makes it even more difficult second half. Again, second half, we had enough chances to get something out the game.”

Peaks went onto discuss how missed opportunities have been a common issue throughout pre-season, and is something that needs to be worked on.

He said: “I said in pre-season, all the games we’ve played, we need to be more clinical because we missed a lot of chances, and we need to defend better because we haven’t got a lot of clean sheets. If you look at the game today, that’s what cost us.

“We haven’t defended well enough for their two goals, we’ve had enough chances to win two or three games of football, and we haven’t taken them. When you play a good level of football, and this is a good level, against good players, if you don’t do the basics, being better in both boxes, you get hurt.

1,031 supporters were in attendance, with Peaks acknowledging the fan frustrations.

He said: “I’m sure they were frustrated because they’ve seen what’s gone on.

“As a supporter, you want to win games of football, as I do as a manager. There was a lot of stuff there that was good, but ultimately we’ve come out the wrong side. We want them to come back again, because we’ll play worse than that, create less chances, and win games of football.

“We had decisions that went against us, which is out of my control, and people look at them decisions. I thought we were very unlucky on quite a lot of them, and I don’t think we were helped by the officials. Even with that, we had enough chances to win the game of football and we haven’t done that so we have to help ourselves.”
