PEAKS ON COMPETITIVE BARROW MATCH-UP

PEAKS ON COMPETITIVE BARROW MATCH-UP

Tamworth FC

Andy Peaks was disappointed to have come out on the wrong side of the scoreline on Saturday afternoon as they fell to a narrow defeat to Barrow.

After a tight contest in the first half, Rekeem Harper struck first for the visitors, confidently dispatching a penalty before a second came after the hour mark from Corey Edwards.

Teo Kurtaran’s composed finish from the penalty spot saw the Lambs get one back late on, but it wasn’t enough to grab all three points despite a strong effort against a physical side.

Peaks said: “We’re on a good little run so we wanted to get something out of it and we’ve gone away with zero points. Not happy with that, but performance wise I was happy with it for long periods. I thought we lacked a little bit of quality. Disappointed to concede two goals so close together, but overall I thought we competed really well against a physical team.

“We said at half time that we were well in the game, I thought we’d been as strong as them first half. I thought a lot of things went against us and I was disappointed. I thought the lads gave a good account of ourselves and the lads went in at half time quite happy.

“We came out second half, I thought we were in the ascendency, had a couple of good chances, and they broke away and got a penalty which didn’t help us whatsoever. Then you’re chasing the game a little bit, conceded the second quite soon after, which is not ideal. It made it a tough last half hour after that, but I thought we stayed in it, I thought we competed. I’ve looked at the data, I’ve looked at the stats, I thought we had enough chances to get something out of the game.”

Peaks discussed the nature of the challenge against Barrow, along with his frustration at key moments falling away from his side.

He said: “The positives were that we matched a team who are trying to get back out of this league with a good budget, full time club, and we’ve matched them for long periods. They were no better than us over the game today. We had nothing go for us whatsoever, even late on we hit the post and it goes the wrong side, 2-2 would’ve been a good point.

“Key moments in the game didn’t go our way. Even the penalty we’ve got, I’m not sure that’s going to be given unless the linesman got involved. I was disappointed with their performance. I’m not going to be over the top, but I was disappointed first half with the amount of fouls they conceded to not get any yellow cards, whereas as soon as we made a tackle second half, it was a yellow card. I don’t think that was fair, but that’s part of it. We can’t worry about that sort of thing.

"I look at the group and think they put a shift in. We competed with a big, strong physical team, and they’ve got a threat out wide which is obviously how they’ve done so well in the last few games, so we knew it was going to be tough, we’ve matched them for long periods, so for me that’s what we take into the next game.”
