TJ Bramble’s late goal was a consolation for the Lambs as they lost 4-1 to the Yorkshire side.
Peaks said: “Really disappointed. Not a performance that I’m proud of whatsoever, and they shouldn’t be, either.

“That’s not what I consider to be a Tamworth performance. Defensively, we were very, very poor. Individual errors at key times. We talk about being solid, not giving goals away, and we’ve conceded some terrible goals that, really, you shouldn’t be seeing at this level of football. Unfortunately, at this level, when you give goals away like that, you’re not getting points out of a game.”

He continued: “It’s back to basics. I’m not bothered how they do it, but they need to defend better. Whether it be passing blind, or not doing what you need to do, individual errors cost us. Like we said, we have to learn quickly, because that’s happened in each of the first three games, we’ve given terrible goals away. No-one gives us goals like that. We’ve had good areas of possession, we’ve had more balls into their box than they’ve had hours but they haven’t given us goals. We’ve had more attempts on the goal than them, but unfortunately we’ve not defended well enough. At this level, you get punished, and it just shows what sort of league it is.

“I wouldn’t expect, at Step 3, to give some of those goals away. It’s just not acceptable. We can talk about pattern of play, shape, and what formation, but that doesn’t really matter. They were individual mistakes, giving the ball away in wrong areas, not doing the right thing, and not rallying round together. We concede two just before half time. At 1-0, you’re still in the game, because we did create stuff, even late on. We come out of the second half, within two minutes there’s another one gone in. That, for me, is three goals in a seven minute spell. That’s not good enough. We need to manage the game better than that. People have to stand up in what’s going to be a long few weeks. We’ve got to sort it out sooner rather than later.”

Whilst the start to the season has been difficult for Tamworth, Peaks did mention that some of the individual performances against Halifax were “decent” but it was important to improve collectively.

He said: “There were some decent performances at times from some of the lads. We did okay with the ball at times, but we’ve got to get back to basics and defend better. We didn’t keep any clean sheets in pre-season, and I said we need to learn. Teams I’ve managed before are hard to beat, hard to break down. People either have to stand up or things will be having to change.”
