Andy Peaks was disappointed with his Tamworth side after they failed to capitalise on the missed chances at Harrogate on Saturday lunchtime as well as mentioning the numerous individual errors.

The Lambs led through Ben Milnes inside six minutes, but were trailing at the break after goals Bailey Hobson and Will McGowan turned the scoreline around. Josh Hmami made it 3-1 just after the hour mark.

Peaks said: “Obviously, really disappointed.

“We know we were coming to a decent team, they are at the top of the league, they got relegated from the EFL last year, so we knew it was always tough. I felt we started the game really well, got a great goal from Milno [Ben Milnes], and then, well I keep talking about individual errors. We let them back in the game.”

Harrogate turned the scoreline around just before half-time. When asked how that affected the match specifically, Peaks said “I wouldn’t say it changed the momentum, particularly. They had a lot of the ball, I expected that, but people lost runners. We had two warnings before they scored the first, but we know the shape. People have to track runners at this level of football and if you lose runners you get punished.

“They had two great finishes before half time, whereas we probably get in those areas but we haven’t got the quality, we don’t capitalise on it. We come out second half, doing ok, and then the third goal was the killer.”

Peaks admitted: “I wish I had the answers. We keep looking at all the different options, but we’ve got a work a bit harder. We’ve got to have a bit more desire. At 3-1, we did get some good blocks in and Jas [Singh] made some good saves, and we also created some more chances, again, which we didn’t take.”

Tamworth travel to Southend United on Tuesday evening, with Peaks keen to improve the defensive side of the game.

He said: “Our season’s not going to be defined by coming away and losing 3-1 at Harrogate. They’re a big club and they’ll be up there at the end. Our season’s more about the teams in and around us.

“It hurts more today because we didn’t pick up the three points last Saturday, but we have to be better defensively. That’s as a group. That means tracking runners. That means stopping people playing through the lines, and the higher the levels you go, you get punished.”
