MILNES ON DISAPPOINTING SATURDAY IN NORTH YORKSHIRE

MILNES ON DISAPPOINTING SATURDAY IN NORTH YORKSHIRE

Tamworth FC

Ben Milnes spoke after the game against Harrogate on Saturday that saw Tamworth fall to a 3-1 defeat on the road.

He opened the scoring inside six minutes, but Harrogate turned the scoreline around before the break, and adding to the scoreline just after the hour mark.

He said: “Tough game. Difficult place to come with them just being relegated from League Two so it’s always going to be a tough ask but we just fell a bit short today. We went 1-0 up and then last bit of the first half wasn’t good enough. I thought the start of the second half, we did alright. They’re a good, decent side, to be fair, so a tough day.

Milnes continued: “First half, we were defending up the hill and against the wind, so if we could’ve come in at half time level, it would’ve been a good result. Conceding quite close to have time is never ideal. We were still in the game at 2-1, it’s more the third goal that was a bit of a blow to us. If we keep it at 2-1 then there’s potential that we can nick a goal at the end or try and build a bit of pressure, but obviously it wasn’t to be today.”

Milnes shared his frustration and disappointment with recent results, but said that it was important to stick together and work through difficult moments, with the feeling that the squad is “close” to turning things around.

He said: “We’ve got to work hard, got to look at ourselves as players, and come up with something. It’s a quick turnaround, we’ve got another game Tuesday night away at Southend, which will be another tough game. We’ve got to look at ourselves and come up with something.”

Milnes continued: "It’s very important. We obviously haven’t had the best of starts to the season, but it’s still very early days. We’re close, and with a bit of luck maybe one result could really turn it round for us and we could easily get on a run and get through this sticky period that we’re in. We’ve just got to keep working, keep positive and know that if we keep working hard, sticking to our plans as individuals and a team that we’ll get through this.”
