Tamworth FC return to Enterprise National League action on Saturday with a trip to Lincolnshire to face in-form Boston United at the Jakemans Community Stadium.
Andy Peaks’ side are winless in five league matches and still searching for a first league victory since early January. Three points this weekend would see The Lambs leapfrog The Pilgrims in the table and could lift them as high as 11th, depending on other results.
As Peaks has stressed in recent weeks, hard-earned draws only truly matter when backed up with wins. Victory on Saturday could also stretch the gap to the relegation zone — potentially as much as 11 points to Braintree Town.

Head-to-Head
The two sides first met in 1966 in the West Midlands Premier League at Boston’s former York Street ground. That encounter ended in a 3-2 defeat for Tamworth and began a five-match winless run against The Pilgrims.
That sequence was eventually ended in the 1991/92 FA Cup Second Round Qualifying Replay, when Tamworth secured a 1-0 victory at The Lamb.
The clubs have already met twice this season:
• League (Altair Group Community Stadium): Boston 3-1 Tamworth
Former Halesowen Town striker Kieren Donnelly scored twice to end Tamworth’s seven-match unbeaten league run.
• Isuzu FA Trophy (Third Round): Tamworth won 5-4 on penalties following a 1-1 draw
A swift response from The Lambs to gain revenge.
Historically, Tamworth have won just seven of the previous 29 meetings between the sides.
The last away victory against Boston came in 2023 in the National League North — a 2-0 success on the way to lifting the title, with Boston also earning promotion to Step One that same season.

Boston United – Recent Form
Boston have enjoyed a resurgence under manager Paul Hurst, who was appointed last month following the departure of Graham Coughlan.
The Pilgrims have won their last four matches and have pulled clear of the relegation battle, moving above Tamworth in the process.
During that run, they have secured:
• Impressive away wins over play-off contenders including Boreham Wood
• A remarkable 6-3 victory at Scunthorpe United
It has been one of the more notable turnarounds in the division this season and represents a stern test for The Lambs.

One to Watch – Tom Cursons
Forward Tom Cursons has transformed Boston’s attacking threat since arriving from Harrogate Town in late January.
• 5 goals in his last 3 league appearances
• Accounted for almost 12% of Boston’s total league goals this season
• Boston have scored 10 times since his arrival (23% of their overall league tally)
Dropping down a division can sometimes hinder players — Cursons has embraced it. His movement and finishing ability will require close attention if Tamworth are to halt Boston’s momentum.

Andy Peaks – Pre-Match Thoughts
On the West Ham United PL2 defeat:
“I’m still disappointed with the result. It was a good opportunity to get to a final — we’ve worked hard to reach a semi-final.
The game swayed on the penalty that we missed. We’ve got to do better with penalties across the board. At 1-1 and with them down to ten men, I thought there would only be one winner.
But from a performance point of view, they are a good team and we stood up to the test.”
On facing Boston United:
“We have to be at it. They’ve turned their season around under Paul Hurst, winning their last four and scoring a lot of goals.
The energy levels we showed against West Ham, we need to replicate at Boston — but we need to defend better and take the chances we create.
They beat us in the reverse fixture, so we need to put the record straight and be at our best to get anything.”
Message for the supporters:
“We need to pick up points over the next couple of weeks with some big matches coming up.
It was a brilliant atmosphere at the West Ham game — they got behind us and we’d love them to recreate that. We know it’s a two-way thing, we need to excite them.
The away following has been brilliant and they will certainly play their part at Boston.”
