Tamworth return to Enterprise National League action at the Altair Group Community Stadium tomorrow as they host Mark Hughes’ promotion-chasing Carlisle United with fewer than ten games remaining in the 2025/26 season.
The Lambs will be hoping to end a run of three consecutive defeats. On Tuesday night, Andy Peaks’ side were narrowly beaten 3–2 in Ruislip by Wealdstone despite leading twice, courtesy of goals from Stefan Mols and Ben Acquaye.
Peaks has expressed disappointment with the number of goals his side have conceded this season and in recent weeks – eleven in their last five matches – and will be hoping for a more defensively resolute performance this weekend if Tamworth are to take points from a side with the fourth-highest goals tally in the division.
Eleven points behind second-placed York City and thirteen adrift of leaders Rochdale, the Cumbrians appear likely to be competing in the play-offs this season despite being among the favourites for automatic promotion at the start of the campaign – highlighting just how competitive the division has become.
Carlisle are aiming to return to the Football League at the first attempt following last year’s relegation and arrive in the West Midlands having won three of their last five matches.

Head to Head
In the reverse fixture back in November, The Lambs were narrowly beaten 2–1 by Carlisle at Brunton Park, with a brace from Georgie Kelly proving decisive. Jordan Ponticelli equalised after the hosts’ opener inside 25 minutes, but despite a resilient defensive performance, the promotion chasers eventually found a way through.
Carlisle registered 26 shots, with 13 on target, securing the three points in what was the first meeting between the two clubs in fifteen years.
Across the four previous meetings between the sides, Tamworth have recorded just one victory against their Cumbrian opponents. That win came in December 2004 in the only previous encounter between the teams at The Lamb Ground.
Every fixture between the sides has been decided by a single goal, and Tamworth have scored in each of those encounters. Manager Andy Peaks will be hoping for a similar outcome to that meeting more than twenty years ago as his side look to claim points against one of the league’s strongest teams.

One to Watch – Georgie Kelly
Irish forward Georgie Kelly has been in strong form, scoring three goals in his last four matches and twelve overall this season, including a hat-trick against Solihull Moors.
His instinctive finishing inside the six-yard box and his ability to trouble defenders have made him an important figure in Carlisle’s push for promotion, particularly during a recent goal drought for fellow forward Regan Linney.
The former Derry City academy product’s goals account for more than 17% of United’s total this season, highlighting his influence in Mark Hughes’ side.
Kelly will be a key player for Carlisle as the season approaches its conclusion and potentially into the play-offs. Tamworth will certainly be aware of his threat in front of goal and will need to limit his opportunities inside the penalty area this Saturday.

Andy Peaks’ Post-Wealdstone Comments
On recent results
“Since our last home fixture against Boreham Wood, our performances haven’t quite been at the level we expect. At Yeovil Town we looked tired after a long midweek trip on a working day, which is something that can happen as a part-time side. However, there were no excuses for the way we played at Woking and Wealdstone.”
On Dan Creaney’s form
“Dan’s goal against Woking was a big positive. He’s had a tough season, but he will be better for it. I thought he was excellent both in Surrey and again on Tuesday against Wealdstone. He showed what a handful he can be and why he’s so important for us, not only this season but going forward as well.”
On players returning to the squad
“I’m hoping some of our recently side-lined players may be able to play a part in the Birmingham Senior Cup game against Stourbridge next Wednesday, including Ronan Maher, Joe Riley and Thomas McGlinchey.
Unfortunately, Ryan Howley will be out for at least another two weeks and is currently receiving treatment with his parent club Bristol Rovers. At this stage I’m also unsure when Tyler Roberts will return after pulling his hamstring at Yeovil. Hopefully he can return before the end of the season, but the most important thing is his wellbeing.”
