The Hertfordshire side narrowly lost out on promotion to the EFL last term, losing to Rochdale in the play-off final at Wembley and the Lambs boss says he expects them to be challenging at the top again this campaign.

The Lambs boss said: “I am expecting a real test on Saturday, it is probably the toughest start we could have had to this seasons campaign

“They were so strong last season and literally minutes away from securing promotion to EFL League Two.

“They’ve kept a really strong squad full of players attracting massive interest and have also added more quality.”

Tamworth can take encouragement from having done the double over ‘The Wood’ last season, including a 3-2 win at The Lamb.

That thrilling win was witnessed by Abdullah Ashraf on one of his first visits to the town as he negotiated his takeover of the club. The Chairman will be at Saturday’s season opener and is hoping to see Tamworth extend their unbeaten run against Boreham Wood and kick off the season in style.
