Last Saturday’s fantastic win over AFC Fylde was a brilliant way to end our home league campaign. At 3–1 down, it felt like the odds were stacked against us, but the comeback truly epitomised the character of this team. It said everything about the group — they just keep finding ways to overcome adversity.
Scoring just before half-time to make it 3–2 gave the lads a real lift, and from there, they pushed on. They chased every ball, and the data we’ve had back shows just how hard they worked. Honestly, we could have won by even more if we’d taken a few more of our chances.
With Jas being sent off, it was a tough situation for Jack to step in, especially against the best free-kick taker in the league — not the easiest of baptisms! But in the second half, he made a good save and started to grow in confidence. He’ll take a lot from the experience, and it’s a fitting reward for his commitment all season. Jack’s been with us home and away, helping with warm-ups and supporting the team.
For the game against Altrincham on Monday afternoon, Leon returned from his loan at Stafford Rangers and stepped in to replace Jas, who served a one-match suspension.
We’re now guaranteed a 10th-place finish — and we even had the chance to climb to 9th with a win at Altrincham. I don’t think many people would have predicted that at the start of the season.
It’s also great news that the Birmingham Senior Cup Final has been moved to The Lamb. It means our supporters won’t have to travel far, and we gain a home advantage. It’s a real opportunity to finish the season with silverware. I understand it would be our first Senior Cup win since the 1968–69 season. Burton are expected to field a young side, but having seen them in their semi-final, I can say they’re a very talented group and will give us a tough game.
It’s a big week for the club — with our final league fixture now behind us, we’re looking ahead to two cup finals. I’m especially pleased for Tim Dudding and the Academy for the fantastic results they’ve achieved this season. It would be brilliant to see plenty of fans turning out to support the U19s in their final on Wednesday night. We’re starting to see a clear pathway for our young players, highlighted by Charlie Edge making his debut at Forest Green Rovers last week.
We trained on Friday in preparation for the Altrincham game, and I hope we can carry that momentum and finish the season on a high.
