Manager Andy Peaks said the draw against Boston United was a “familiar story” as he shared his disappointment at Tamworth not being able to see out the game against Boston United on Saturday.

The Lambs opened the scoring through former Boston United player Kieren Donnelly, but Jamie Grimes headed home an equaliser in the 32nd minute.

Morgan Roberts was the one to retake the lead eight minutes after the restart, but the visitors pulled level again on the 63rd minute through Lennell John-Lewis.

Peaks said: “Disappointed, to be honest.

“For me, it’s two points dropped at home. On the 96 minutes, I felt we should’ve scored more than we did, and I felt we shouldn’t have conceded the goals we did. It’s a familiar story at the minute, unfortunately.

“We keep saying [about making tweaks]. We’ve played six games now and we’ve been in every game. Halifax, we weren’t, because of terrible mistakes, but we’ve competed with every team and not got the points we should’ve got. More chances than them today, but we have to learn to defend. People not doing the right things at key times, giving them a little bit of a lifeline.

He continued: “We had enough chances to win, but we shouldn’t have to score four and five to win a game of football. We’re disappointed as a group, but we can’t sulk about it, we’ve got to put it right. People have got to step up to the plate, people have got to take responsibility, and have to stop giving goals away.”

A positive from the game was more goals for Morgan Roberts and Kieren Donnelly, something which Peaks believed showed the quality of the pair.

Peaks said: “Great goal, I think he puts some good balls in as well.

“He’s got quality. I knew loads about Morgs [Morgan Roberts] before he came. He’s settled in well, as a few of the boys have to be honest. General performances have been good. KD [Kieren Donnelly] again gets a goal, could’ve had another, unlucky. Very frustrating, because we’ve played enough good stuff in the first six games to have more points than we have.”
Tamworth are back in action against Middlesbrough (PL2) on Wednesday evening’s National League Cup competitions, with Peaks hoping to give players plenty of opportunity to prove themselves.

The Lambs were victorious in the last National League Cup match, with youth player Vanylson Silva scoring on his debut.

Peaks said: Wednesday, the boys will come in, they’ll get an opportunity. They’re all good lads, they’ll come and we’ll try and win a game of football.”
