The Lambs drew 1-1 with Macclesfield FC at the Lamb last night in a tough contest against a side that finished fourth in the National League North last season.

Striker Dan Creaney put Tamworth in front after 32 minutes but Adan George equalised for the Silkmen in the 78th minute of our final pre-season match at home before the new season begins.

Peaks said afterwards: “I thought it was a really competitive game as we knew it would be, because they’ve got a really good squad. They were disappointed not to get into our league last year but they’ll be right up there again this year.

“We thought it would be a tough test and it was a good battle out there. Obviously we’d like to have gotten a clean sheet, which was disappointing as we haven’t had one yet, but there will be times that they come.

“For me it was more like a proper game (rather than pre-season) like it’ll be come the next couple of weeks, overall I’m really pleased. There were a lot more positives than negatives.

“We defended well as a group, the shape of the team was good, yes they had some chances and Jas made some great saves but equally at the other end we played some good football and we could’ve equally had more goals.”

A common theme this pre-season has been not finishing games off when leading but that isn’t something that is worrying Peaks too much.

He added: “We were really good in the first half and created a lot of chances and same at the start of the second half. Then we made some changes and sat a little bit deeper to hang on. Every game is different and these are a better team than most we’ve played in pre-season.”

On Dan Creaney scoring again, Peaks said: “Dan is always going to be a threat and from a set piece too. To be honest if we could’ve held out it would’ve been a typical performance that we’ve had across the last few years.”

Our next home fixture at The Lamb will be when we face AFC Fylde on August 15 a game which Peaks described as “a big game and why would you not want to be here?”
